Nitsche No More

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Dominik Nitsche has left us just before the end of Level 14. He was on the button and got his last 65,000 in preflop against the player in the big blind.

Nitsche: {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}
Big blind: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

Nitsche needed help but it wouldn’t come as the community cards fell {k-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{10-Spades} to see his opponent’s pocket sevens hold.

Nitsche wished the table good luck before leaving the tournament area.

Holz Not Respecting the 3-bet

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

A player in middle position raised to 7,500 and Fedor Holz made the call from the cutoff before Nibal Edgtton pumped it up to 34,000 from the small blind. While the original raiser folded Holz was going nowhere and made the call.

The flop came down {5-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and Edgtton quickly checked. Holz shot him a glance before counting out a bet of 25,000, which was enough to get Edgtton to give it up. Holz now has around 345,000.

What They're Playing For

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

101 players remain with 80 players cashing today. They're all gunning for that first-place prize of AU$1,600,000. Crown Casino Melbourne throws in this little thing as a bonus for the successor of Ari Engel:

Tony Dunst Done And Dusted

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Tony Dunst
Tony Dunst

Last year’s runner-up Tony Dunst won’t be making consecutive final table appearances – he just exited the tournament area after being eliminated.

All the money was in the middle and the cards were spread {10-Spades}{3-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{k-Spades} when we spotted Dunst out of his seat. He had {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} in front of him but that was no good against his opponent’s {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}.

Excellent Start for Jason Mo

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Jason Mo

Jason Mo started the day with 170,000 which was above average and worth almost 71 big blinds. Ever since, Mo has accumulated a ton of chips more and now sits on one of the biggest stacks in the Crown Melbourne poker room.

Mo won a series of small and medium-sized pots in the first two levels of the day. One of the bigger ones he won, was a hand where he had the nut flush up against a poor soul's third nut flush.

Mo, who has Ben Tollerene on his immediate left, plays just over half a million in chips, worth a staggering 170 big blinds.

Marotta Making Waves

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Nino Marotta is well and truly running hot after once again picking up pocket kings, and once again sending an opponent packing.

The two players got it in preflop with Marotta holding {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} and in front of {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}. The pocket kings held on the {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds} runout and Marotta raked the pot to establish himself as one of the chip leaders here on Day 3.

“You’re officially on a heater now,” said Marotta’s tablemate Scott Davies.

Holz Doubles

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Alex Keating has just informed us of a recent double-up for Fedor Holz.

Holz raised from the hijack and was called by the player in the big blind.

The flop came {2-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and the big blind check-called a continuation bet by Holz.

The turn brought the {8-Clubs} and the big blind checked once more. Holz led out for 35,000 only to be faced with an all in shove from his opponent. He snap-called with 123,000 chips behind.

Holz: {j-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}

Holz had turned the nut straight and had his opponent drawing dead. The meaningless {a-Clubs} completed the board and Holz raked in a sizeable pot to see him rise back up to 300,000.
