After loosing a few small consecutive pots, Tung Nguyen (AUS) was down to his remaining ~500,000. He open=jammed from the cutoff and was called by Mishel Anunu in the big blind.
Tung Nguyen (AUS): A♦4♥
Mishel Anunu: 10♦10♣
Nguyen needed help but the 2♠K♠J♣Q♥6♠ board didn't bring in much of a sweat, and he was eliminated in 29th place for $41,580 AUD.
He was shortly followed by Thomas Karadimos who also locked up a 41,580 AUD payout.
Thomas Karadimos had already shoved fro under the gun and Michael Zhang called all in for 1,260,000 from directly behind to put himself at risk.
Michael Zhang: Q♣Q♦
Thomas Karadimos: A♣K♠
It was a fair fight between two premium hands, but the 10♠8♥4♦7♦9♠ runout kept Zhang's queens best — awarding him the double up and leaving Karadimos with just 375,000 behind.
Thomas Karadimos opened to 65,000 from the cutoff and it was folded to Graham Cowan, who annoucned he was all in for his last 505,000 from the small blind. Karadimos verified the amount and tanked a bit, but eventually stuck in a call to put Cowan at risk.
Graham Cowan: 7♦7♥
Thomas Karadimos A♣7♣
"Keep it low, keep it low," Cowan pleaded.
The 3♦8♥4♦ flop and 9♥ turn were safe for Cowan, but the A♠ appeared on the river, ending Cowan's run in heart-wrenching fashion after pairing Karadimos's ace.
Andrew Hinrichsen opened to 60,000 from under the gun and Victor Dai three-bet to 200,000. Tim Vanari tanked and then four-bet all in for his remaining 580,000.
Hinrichsen quickly folded, but Dai took a minute to think, before mucking his hand and passing the pot to Vanari.
A few hands later, Sheldon Mayer just scooped a big pot with A♠Q♥ from the cutoff against Toby Joyce, after Joyce defended 9♣7♠ from the big blind.
The 10♦4♣8♠Q♠Q♦ runout saw Mayer stack up his chips, taking around a third of Joyce's stack.
Michael Zhang opened to 60,000 from the hijack and was three-bet to 160,000 by Graham Cowan in the cutoff. Action folded back around to Zhang, who called.
Zhang check-called a 75,000 bet from Cowan on the Q♦7♥2♥ flop and then both players checked on the A♥ turn.
The 10♥ brought four cards to a flush on board and Zhang bet 645,000 — leaving himself a single t-5,000 denomination chip behind.
Cowan quickly called and Zhang tabled K♥J♣ for the nuts. Cowan showed he held J♠J♥ for a lower flush and Zhang nearly doubled his stack.
Sam Higgs opened from the cutoff and was called by Toby Joyce on the button. Jackson Young then shoved for 650,000 from the big blind, which got a fold from Higgs and a call from Joyce to be put at risk.
Jackson Young: K♠10♠
Toby Joyce: A♠A♦
Young had fallen into Joyce's trap with aces and needed some serious help to keep his Main Event run alive.
The board ran out 7♥5♣10♦4♣2♣ — improving Young to a still second-best pair of tens and he was eliminated.
Mishel Anunu raised to 90,000 from the small blind and Hieu Nguyen defended his big blind.
Nguyen then proceeded to call bets from Anunu on every street. First for 60,000 on the K♦2♣9♠ flop, then for 175,000 on the 8♠ turn, and finally for 225,000 on the 3♠ river after a bit of a tank.
Anunu tabled A♥9♦ for a pair nines and Nguyen sent his hand into the muck.
After just securing a double up from his opponent, Michael Zhang was in another pot with Hengrui Zhang.
Hengrui Zhang opened to 60,000 from the cutoff and Michael Zhang defended the big blind.
The pair saw the 8♠9♦6♣ flop and checked to the 7♠ turn. Michael Zhang bet out 50,000 and Hengrui Zhang called.
A 8♠ river saw Michael Zhang move in 175,000 but didn't get a call from Hengrui Zhang who quickly mucked his cards.
On a table across, Stephen Woodhead opened to 60,000 on the button and Tim Vanari used a time bank card before three-betting to 175,000. Woodhead swiftly moved all in for 1,300,000 and Vanari sat back in his chair to contemplate his decision. He eventually gave up his hand, and had lost around half his stack since coming back from the break.
