Johnston Finds a Double

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante

Matthew Head raised to 2,000 from middle position and a player in late position called before Ronald Johnston three-bet shoved his last 5,300.

Head four-bet shoved for much more and the late position player went deep into the tank. After several minutes, the clock was called and he got out of the way. Action was heads-up with Johnston at risk.

Matthew Head: {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Ronald Johnston: {a-}{2-}

The board ran out {3-Spades}{10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{5-Spades} and Johnston picked up a pair of twos to come from behind and secure the double.

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante

Aja Owens raised to 1,200 from under the gun and Luis Valdes called from the small blind. The flop was {k-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}.

Valdes check-called a 2,000 bet from Owens and the turn was {8-Hearts}.

Both players checked the turn and the {k-Diamonds} river. Valdes turned over {4-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Owens tossed the losing hand in the muck.

In the latest edition of the PokerNews Podcast, Sarah Herring returns to join Chad Holloway and Jesse Fullen in talking about all the latest in the poker industry. That includes the legend himself, Doyle Brunson, celebrating his 89th birthday. Listen to folks like Phil Hellmuth, Eli Elezra, Matt Savage, and Stefanie Ungar wish "Texas Dolly" a happy birthday.

They also dive into the uproar caused by Hustler Casino canceling a $250K GTD tournament after it had already held four flights, discuss Dan Shak getting into hot water in the commodities world, and debate whether or not they could live in Bally's for a year for $100,000, a popular prop bet that was talked about on social media this week.

Other stories include popular streamer Ludwig calling out the same scammer that Ethan “RampagePoker” Yau did, winners from the recently-completed 2022 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open (SHRPO), and the new slate of online bracelets coming to WSOP.com and GGPoker. Finally, the crew remembers three-time bracelet winner Panayote "Pete the Greek" Vilandos, who passed away at the end of July.

You can go ahead and forget about the preview article we wrote a few days back on the $1.6 million High Stakes Duel III rematch between Phil Hellmuth and Scott Seiver, scheduled for August 22 on PokerGO, because the game has been called off.

Citing personal reasons, three months after his Round 4 defeat, Seiver has decided to back out of the match, leaving the seat open for a new challenger to face Hellmuth, who is 9-1 on the heads-up poker show.

Action was heads-up with {j-Clubs}{2-Spades}{a-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{7-Spades} on the board when Kelley Slay bet 15,000. His opponent thought it over and counted out the chips before he slid out a stack to call.

Slay turned over {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} to take the pot with a set of sixes. His opponent mucked, but mentioned that he had an ace.
