Late Entries Boost BetMGM Poker Championship Prize Pool Over $1 Million

Level 18 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Albert Nguyen
Albert Nguyen

After another nine levels of play in the first-ever BetMGM Poker Championship at the ARIA Resort and Casino, just 26 players survived to bag and tag their stacks into Day 3.

Leading the pack is Canada's Albert Nguyen and rounding out the top three chip stacks are Paul Hoefer and Jake Daniels.

The big story of the day was that the event was able to surpass its $1 million guarantee, which was thanks to a plethora of Day 2 buy-ins. Today saw a further 133 entries, bringing the total to 343. This swelled the prize pool to a $1,097,600.

Notable names who decided to make the most of the late registration period included Ethan Yau, Landon Tice, Hossein Ensan and Jeremy Ausmus. However, none would last too long in the event.

2015 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe McKeehen had his afternoon cut short by Nick Sena, who floated the flop and spiked his gutshot straight draw. The pair then got their stacks in the middle and McKeehen left the room before the runout as he saw his pocket aces were drawing dead.

Once the late registration period was closed, it was swiftly announced that 44 players would make the money. Any player who ended up in the paid places secured themselves a payday of at least $6,256 while the eventual winner will walk away with the $224,236 up top.

Isaac Kempton eliminated Fabian Gumz in 46th place in a huge hand to set up the stone bubble.

Bubble play lasted for about an hour and ended when Jeremy Saderne moved all in with his last big blind. His ace-nine was in good shape against the jack-seven of Shankar Pillai, but a jack on the river ensured that Saderne would be the last player to leave the tournament empty-handed.

Famous faces who busted in the money were WSOP bracelet winners Dejuante Alexander and Norbert Szecsi. Other names who cashed on Day 2 included Anton Wigg, Mario Navarro and BetMGM Poker Qualifiers Edward Leonard and Jonathan Lessin.

Michael Wang, Kevin Rabichow and Todd Ivens are some other names returning for Day 3. Joining them are BetMGM Poker Qualifiers Steve Bayyouk, Ryan Shinevare, Angel Lopez and Benji Felson. Those players will return to the PokerGO Studio on Saturday, June 25 at 12 p.m. to play Day 3.

Wigg Doubles to Survive; Szecsi Busts

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Anton Wigg
Anton Wigg

Anton Wigg had his 130,000 stack in the middle from under the gun and he was at risk to Oliver Price.

Anton Wigg: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Oliver Price: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Wigg had three immediate outs and found one of them on the {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop. The {6-Spades} was of no help to Price and Wigg secured the double up following the {10-Diamonds} river.

As that hand finished, Norbert Szecsi was seen leaving the tournament area.

Saderne Eliminated by Pillai on Money Bubble

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Jeremy Saderne
Jeremy Saderne

Jeremy Saderne moved all in from under the gun with less than a big blind and Shankar Pillai raised to get the hand heads-up.

"F*** you, Shankar!" yelled Jake Schwartz in friendly banter. "Look at this freak show!"

As Saderne and Pillai waited for hands to finish on the other tables, Schwartz redirected his banter to Isaac Kempton, who recently busted Fabian Gumz.

"By the way, f*** you! That was my horse you just busted!" Schwartz told Kempton, who merely shrugged.

The cards were then flipped on their backs to reveal Saderne holding {a-Hearts}{9-Clubs} to be ahead of the {j-Hearts}{7-Hearts} of Pillai. Saderne looked to be safe from bubbling on the {q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} board, but the {j-Clubs} on the river gave Pillai the best hand to eliminate Saderne on the money bubble.

"Oh, Shank. You asshole!" Schwartz yelled in his continued tirade.

Kempton Flops Set to Bubble Gumz

Level 16 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Isaac Kempton
Isaac Kempton

Picking up the action on the turn on a board reading {5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, Fabian Gumz led out with a bet and Isaac Kempton raised to 85,000. Gumz used up a time bank before calling.

Gumz checked on the {10-Hearts} river and Kempton moved all-in with Gumz significantly covered. Gumz let out a sigh and shuffled a handful of chips as he thought through his decision. Eventually, he called with his remaining stack of around 260,000.

Kempton tabled {5-Spades}{5-Hearts} for a flopped set and Gumz nodded in defeat as he left the tournament area just two players away from the money.

Despite the all in and call, the dealer never exposed Gumz' hand.

Albert Nguyen

George Rakitzis opened from the cutoff and Albert Nguyen called out of the small blind.

Nguyen checked on the {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{6-Spades} flop and Rakitzis bet 15,000. Nguyen called. Nguyen checked again on the {4-Clubs} turn and Rakitzis moved all-in for around 50,000. Nguyen quickly called.

George Rakitzis: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Albert Nguyen: {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}

Rakitzis had been out-flopped by Nguyen with two pair and was eliminated when the {4-Clubs} peeled off on the river.

Rabichow Sends Richter to Rail

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Linus Richter
Linus Richter

Linus Richter opened to 13,000 on the button and the small blind flat-called. Kevin Rabichow then three-bet to 58,000 from the big blind and Richter four-bet shoved a stack of around 280,000. The small blind folded and Rabichow called with a slightly larger stack.

Linus Richter: {a-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Kevin Rabichow: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Richter was dominated and received no help from the runout of {4-Spades}{k-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Spades}{4-Clubs} to be eliminated as a massive pot was shipped to Rabichow.

Wang Busts a Player Then Doubles Up Gierse

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Michael Wnag
Michael Wnag

Joseph Cheong opened to 10,000 from middle position before Michael Wong raised to 27,000 from the hijack. The cutoff then four-bet to 65,000. Cheong quickly folded but Wang went deep into the tank and eventually, the clock was called. Wang ended up moving all in for around 275,000 and was snapped by his opponent, who he just narrowly covered.

Cutoff: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Michael Wang: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

There was an ace in the window but it was rendered useless as a queen followed on the {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{10-Spades} flop. A {4-} hit the turn and the {2-Clubs} river confirmed that the huge pot would be sent Wang's way.

The very next hand, Marius Gierse, with {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, was all in against Wang's pocket fives. There was an ace on the flop and Gierse held to double up.

Ivens Extends Gap

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Todd Ivens
Todd Ivens

Action was caught on the {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{9-Clubs} flop in a hand between Todd Ivens and Linus Richter.

Ivens, from under the gun, check-called a bet of 25,000 from Richter, who was in middle position.

Ivens did the same for 90,000 on the {6-Hearts} turn.

On the {7-Spades} river, Ivens bet out 175,000 and sent Richter into the tank. The latter threw his hands up in the air on a few occasions before deciding to return his cards to the dealer.
