Some Shorties Makin' the Money

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Play has resumed normal pace following a short break and breaking of Table 7.

Here are some of the short stacks that squeaked into the money:

Volpe Eliminates Holmquist on the Bubble

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Matthew Holmquist
Matthew Holmquist

Paul Volpe opened, then Matt Holmquist moved his short-stack across the line. Volpe called and they held the action until all other tables had completed their hands.

Holmquist was ahead with {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. Volpe had {a-Clubs}{q-}. There was an ace in the window as the dealer spread the flop of {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, then completed the board with {5-Spades}{q-Hearts}.

Volpe took the pot with top two pair.

Matthew Holmquist was eliminated in 55th place on the bubble.

Remaining players are now in the money and guaranteed to earn at least $4,957.

Iles Bubbles the Bubble

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Matt Iles
Matt Iles

On the turn with a board of {k-}{6-}{4-}{a-} Matt Iles got all-in against Robert Chasen.

Matt's pocket kings had out-flopped Chasen's pocket Aces, but then Chasen retook the lead on the turn. Iles picked up a flush draw on the turn, but was drawing to the case King or a heart that didn't pair the board, none of which appeared on the river.

Chasen took the pot and Iles was felted in 56th place, two from the money.

Now they have begun hand-for-hand play. Two minutes will come off the clock for each hand played, until one more player is eliminated.

Jackson Takes Out Gao

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

David Jackson has sent another player to the rail and is now up to 1.7 million.

Mike Gao got all-in with pocket queens against the {a-}{k-} of Jackson. A king on the turn made him Jackson's latest victim. Gao was eliminated in 57th place ($0).

Now just two players remain between the field and a payday!

Taylor Triples; Lopez Felted

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Angel Lopez
Angel Lopez

On Table 7, Sean Thomson opened for 12,000, then Stuart Taylor moved in for 59,000 total. Nikolai Markov called from the cutoff and Thomson called as well.

The flop fell {10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and both players checked the dry side pot. On the {7-Spades} turn, Thomson led for 81,000 and got the call from Markov. River brought the {a-Diamonds} and they checked it down.

Thomson had {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} to beat Markov's {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} for the side pot, but Taylor tabled {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} for the rivered pair of aces to take the pot, tripling up.

Meanwhile on Table 6, Angel Lopez was eliminated (58th) bringing the field one spot closer to the money.

Jackson Tops One Million

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
David Jackson
David Jackson

Lev Tripolsky was the first player to report to the rail (60th).

Then a short while later, David Jackson (utg) opened, getting action from a player in the middle and Ed Franklin in the big blind.

On the flop of {j-}{10-}{7-}, Franklin led for 8,000, Jackson raised to 13,000, the third player folded and Franklin jammed for ~80,000 total. Jackson called. Franklin had {j-}{7-} and had flopped two pair, but the start of day chip leader had pocket tens and had flopped a set.

After the board bricked out, Jackson took the pot and Franklin took the walk to the exit (59th).

They're now four players from the money and three from the bubble, at which time they will begin hand-for-hand play.
