Scandi on Scandi Raising War

With the action folded around to Erik Sjodin on the button, he raised to 14,000 and Frode Gjesdal called from the big blind. The flop came down {9-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {5-Spades}. Gjesdal checked, Sjodin bet 20,000, and Gjesdal reraised to 42,000. Gjesdal almost immediately slid out a large stack of 5,000 chips, setting Sjodin all in for the 75,000 or so he had behind. After much wrinkling of his forehead and shuffling of chips, Gjesdal mucked his hand with a frown and Sjodin raked in the pot.

Gjesdal is now down to 75,000.

Alan Smurfit Doubles Up

Over on the TV featured table, Alan Smurfit moved all in for 79,500, sliding his chips AND his WSOP bracelet (which he always uses as a card capper) into the pot. Johannes Strassman obliged and made the call.

Smurfit's {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} dominated the young German's {A-Spades} {9-Clubs} and held up on the {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {8-Hearts} {6-Spades} {Q-Spades} board to double him up to 170,500.
