Katja Thater Doubles Through Sebastian Ruthenberg

Finally, an ace!
Finally, an ace!
Over the last hour or so, Katja Thater has looked to be miserably card-dead. The usually stoic WSOP bracelet winner hasn't been able to hide her frustration, sighing heavily as she looks at junk hand after junk hand.

She finally found one to go with, picking up {A-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} and earning a call from fellow German Sebastian Ruthenberg with {Q-?} {10-?}. After a raggy flop that missed both players, Thater hit an ace on the turn sealing up the hand and doubling her to just north of 22,000.

The Inevitable Slowdown

With the rapid-fire pace of eliminations this afternoon, it was only a matter of time before things slowed down. For the last 20 minutes or so, we've been holding steady at 45 players remaining.

Sergey Shcherbatskiy Up to 115K in Massive Three-Way Pot

We caught up to this hand on the turn with what appeared to be over 20,000 already in the middle on a board of {K-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {6-Spades} {4-Clubs}. Patric Martensson checked, Sergey Shcherbatskiy checked, and Sebastian Ruthenberg bet 11,500. Both players called. The river brought the {4-Diamonds} and the action was checked around.

Martensson showed {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades}, and looked shocked to see Shcherbatskiy roll over {A-Spades} {4-Spades} for the rivered full house. Ruthenberg mucked and Shcherbatskiy collected the monster pot, sending his stack up to 114,000.

Deuces Good Enough for Hansen

Christoffer Hansen has doubled through Sven Leu, the two of them getting the chips in a blind-on-blind confrontation with less than premium holdings, nevertheless racing.

Hansen: {2-Spades} {2-Hearts}
Leu: {A-Clubs} {5-Spades}

Board: a very exciting {2-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}

Hansen doubles to 50,000, Leu drops to a similar 52,000.

Alain Roy Falls to Super-Dario

On a flop of {K-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {7-Hearts}, Alain Roy moved all in for his remaining 9,100 and Dario Minieri obliged with a call. Both players had paired their kings, but Roy's {K-Spades} {8-Diamonds} was outkicked by Minieri's {K-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}. The turn was the {6-Diamonds}, the river was the {4-Spades} and Roy hit the rail, while Dario added even more to his massive stack, now totaling 87,000.

ElkY's Not Well-ky

ElkY did in fact double up, but got his last 20,000 in a few hands later with {A-?} {Q-?}, comfortably dominating his opponent's {A-?} {J-?}. A jack on the flop, though, and his EPT dreams were cruelly shattered as he headed for the rail.

Minieri Loses Another 25,000 to Holm

More Minieri/Holm action, this time involving an actual hand rather than just the careless tossing around of seven-figure sums.

Minieri made it 3,600 from the button, only for Uffe Holm to make it around 10,000 from the small blind. After a little consideration, Minieri made it around 25,000. Holm called, and they saw a flop.

Flop: {10-Spades} {2-Clubs} {7-Spades} and a swift check from both led them to a turn.

Turn: {J-Hearts}

Holm considered for a moment, pulling his hood up so as to think better. Then he bet 15,000.

"You know what I have," sighed Minieri, and folded. "I think you have, er, six-eight," quipped Holm. "You're wrong," deadpanned Minieri.

Minieri drops down to a still very chunky 80,000, while Holm catapults up to 113,000.

Minieri Down a Million?

Has a million, may or may not pay a million
Has a million, may or may not pay a million
Uffe Holm bet out 7,500 on the turn of a {8-Spades} {8-?} {Q-Spades} {9-Diamonds} board, forcing Josh Gould to eventually fold. As the cards were mucked and the chips pushed towards Holm, announced Dario Minieri, "King-queen. I bet a million dollars."

Said Holm: "You have a million dollars?"

Minieri: "Yes."

Holm: "You pay a million dollars?"

Minieri: "Ummm... Yes."

Holm: "I'll bet a thousand dollars."

Minieri: "No. I only bet a million."

They shook on it, and Holm turned over pocket eights.

"You want the name of my bank in Denmark, or you pay cash?"
