Just Pre Break: Four Tables, Three With Three-bets

...And beyond - Toby Lewis fourbet shoved the cutoff after the Crazy Italian Fabrizio Ascari had given a threebet a go on the button. Cue drama-dwell (a new term for when people get up, peer right in the face of their opponent, grab a notepad from a waitress and stall loudly etc.) which appeared to be getting under the Brit's skin a little, headphones or no headphones. Finally as everyone drifted off for the break, Ascari folded and Lewis snuck off as quickly as possible.

On the neighbouring tables, it was Jacobson taking down the last hand with a preflop threebet, while Sergio Coutinho did the same thing from the small blind to Garcia.

Berg, Berg, Berg Is The Word

It doesn't happen often but we've just had some Berg-on-Berg action here in Vilamoura. Johan Berg had moved all-in from the cutoff for 155,000 and Eric Van Den Berg reraised all-in behind him on the button.

Berg: {2-Clubs} {2-Diamonds}
Van Den Berg: {10-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}

The board managed to come down both pro and anti-Berg, {5-Spades} {A-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {9-Hearts}.

Johan Berg was eliminated but Eric Van Den Berg now has 550,000.

Cezarescu Stabbed

Shoviest Man At His Table, Erik van den Berg, was for once not the one going all in this hand. Van den Berg merely made the opening raise to 25,000 and quickly gave it up to a shove from Robert Cezarescu and a reshove from Eliran Argelazi. It was an easy double up for Cezarescu.

Argelazi: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Cezarescu: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Board: {7-Clubs}{8-Spades}{j-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

The Romanian doubled to a healthy 480,000. The Israeli, meanwhile, was left with a rather sickly 75,000.

Thorson Has Heart, But Not Enough

William Thorson - Needs a new idea.
William Thorson - Needs a new idea.

With the board reading {9-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {6-Hearts} William Thorson fired out 27,000 before Guillermo Garcia raised to 57,000. Thorson moved all-in and Garcia quickly called with {A-Clubs} {9-Clubs}, ahead but very marginally against the ubertastically delicious drawing hand of Thorson, {5-Hearts} {4-Hearts}. The {K-Clubs} on the turn helped neither but the {A-Spades} needlessly improved Garcia to two pair while a glum looking Thorson had to surrender the majority of his chips.

Garcia - 500,000
Thorson - 210,000

You Can Say That Again

PokerStars Team Pro JP Kelly is out after a short sharp drop and then a big all in confrontation with chip leader Martin Jacobson. The Swede raised preflop and small blind Kelly threebet (45k total). Back to Jacobson who calmly, deliberately, slid out a tall stack of 5k chips equalling 95k. Kelly considered for a while, then softly announced, "All in." So softly that Jacobson had to remove one large white headphone and check with the dealer. He called.

Jacobson: {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}
Kelly: {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}

Flop: {3-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} (bit of a wince from Jacobson there)
Turn: {J-Spades}
River: {K-Hearts}

John Paul not Blessed

JP Kelly - cold shoulder
JP Kelly - cold shoulder

Sole remaining Team PokerStars Pro JP Kelly has taken a hit, his {a-}{q-} no good against online qualifier Tom Johansen's {10-}{10-} on a {6-}{7-}{8-}{9-}{7-} board which made the latter a somewhat superfluous straight. Johansen doubled to 400,000 while the two-time bracelet winner made a face and dropped to 440,000.

Berg Doesn't Hit, Sinks

Erik van den Berg and his orange bobble hat picked up a nice pot when he shoved from the small blind to a 25,000 raise from Rob Hollink (under the gun) and a 63,000 reraise from Toby Lewis (utg+1). Both folded swiftly, and he was up to 480,000.

He lost it all back a hand or two later, though, when Frederick Jensen shoved with pocket {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} and van den Berg reshoved with {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}. The {4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{9-Spades} board contained nothing of any real interest to van den Berg and he was left with 350,000 while Jensen doubled to 270,000.

Guillermo Money

Guillermo Garcia, one of five remaining hats in tournament

Much needed double up for Guillermo Garcia, in the form of a preflop push in an open spot with {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} and about 100k (10bb now). Button Sergio Coutinho moved in over the top, removed the blinds from the equation, and showed down {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. The board ran out {7-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}...{K-Spades}...{J-Diamonds} though, hitting Garcia and dropping Coutinho down in turn.

Willis Won't

We arrived just in time to see the showdown bit; what minimal action there had been took place preflop.

Grzegorz Cichocki: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Robert Willis: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Board: {9-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

Cichocki got up and went around the table to shake hands with the Irishman, who exited with the utmost grace, looking as though he'd thoroughly enjoyed every minute of his time in the tournament. Teddy Sheringham also called after him, "Good luck, Robert," which was very nice of him although a little too late.

Willis has only cashed in one other EPT - right here in Vilamoura in Season 6, when he took 44th place. Willis has bettered that finish this time, and if he carries on this trend he'll take it down one of these days.
