It was an action-packed board where Agatino Spitaleri had fired out 1,400 on the flop of before Diego Testa made it 4,100. Then Kevin MacPhee check-raised to 11,700 making the action very interesting...
Spitaleri tanked for a couple of minutes before moving all-in for about 50,000 and Testa quickly folded, MacPhee re-checked his cards briefly before saying, "I call."
100,000 pot.
MacPhee:
Spitaleri:
The on the turn didn't change anything but the river gave the Italian the full house. MacPhee was left with just 200 chips and was eliminated in the next hand.
Andy Black raised to a slightly-more-than-minimum 1,250 from the cutoff and didn't get much respect - Amerigo Tiberio Santoro on the button and Nicolas Rinquin in the small blind both called, and online qualifier Quoc Nguyen in the big blind reraised to 5,600. Black gave it up pretty swiftly, but Santoro tanked for some minutes before calling. Rinquin felt the same way as Black and folded, and Nguyen and Santoro went heads up to the flop.
Flop:
Nguyen bet out 8,000 with no delay; this in contrast to Santoro who tanked up for a few minutes again before folding face up. Nguyen showed him the and is up to around 70,000.
EPT Grand Final champion Nicolas Chouity is up to 108,000. We're not sure what the other guy had, but Chouity was holding on a board which proved to be enough.
Maurizio Baisi opened to 1,400 preflop and Nicklas Antonsson flat-called before Joe Cada made it 4,000 from the cutoff but both players called.
The flop was and all three players checked before Baisi led out for 4,800 on the turn, Antonsson called but Cada suddenly made it 16,200 to go with about 35,000 behind. Baisi tanked and folded but Antonsson took longer before eventually moving all-in for about 45,000 in total, snap-call from the 2009 WSOP Main Event champion.
Max Pescatori, the "Italian Pirate", is back down to starting stack territory after betting 4,500 from the cutoff to a check from big blind Gerasimos Deres on the turn of the board. Deres check-raised him to 10,100 and Pescatori folded instantly. The Pirate's stack has been pillaged and he's sinking - he's down to 32,000 now from his earlier high of 50,000.
Vanessa Peng, occupying the perhaps cursed seat that was recently vacated by Liv Boeree, has been crippled to within millimetres of the felt. We didn't see what she had (the dealer was sweeping in the cards when we arrived) but it wasn't good enough to beat Paolo Della Penna's pocket jacks on a board. Peng was left with just a few hundred chips and we suspect is not long for this tournament.
Lex Veldhuis has been eliminated after he peeled a large 2,800 raise with in a three-way pot to see a flop. Lex and the original raiser checked before the third player bet 1,600 - Veldhuis called but the original raiser raised to 10,000. The other player folded and Lex called to see the turn where he check-called a bet of 26,000 only for the ugly looking to come on the river.
Veldhuis checked again and his opponent snap-moved all-in for 54,775 to cover the Dutchman. Veldhuis tanked before calling off his stack only to see his opponent's , stating to us after, "He'd always been continuation betting previously and he snap-bet every street..."
Roberto Romanello is famous for his ability to lay a hand down. He has just shown us that he also has the ability to call down a bluff under very light circumstances.
Luca Topazio opened to 1,800 from the button and Roberto Romanello defended the big blind. The dealer laid on the felt and Romanello check-called a 1,800 Topazio bet. Both players checked the turn before the final card was delivered and it was the bluff inducing .
Romanello checked to Topazio who bet 9,000 and Romanello went into thought mode. Topazio was staring straight into Romanello, but he was refusing to take his headphones off, as Romanello desperately tried to gain some more information. Eventually Topazio took off one earphone and Romanello shouted to him.
"I think you have jack-ten."
After long deliberation and plenty of prodding and questioning the Welshman called and what a call it was. Topazio tapped the felt and showed the lone before folding the other card. Incredibly Romanello peeled over for a ace high hand with a queen kicker.
