De Meulder Bullied by Gomila

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

Tomeu Gomila is using his big stack very well at the feature table, just asked Mattias De Meulder.

The Team PokerStars raised to 62,000 from the cut-off and Gomila defended his big blind to see a {3-Spades}{q-Spades}{9-Spades} flop. The Spaniard led for 100,000 and De Meulder looked like he was going to raise but elected to call.

The turn fell {4-Spades} and Gomila slowed to a check and faced a 153,000 bet from his Belgian opponent. His response was to snap shove on him, forcing a quick fold. And just to rub salt into his wounds he tabled the lowly {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. De Meulder nearing the danger zone as he dropped to 700,000.

Martinez Doubles Back

Under the gun, Raul Mestre opened the pot to 66,000, and Massimilano Martinez three-bet shoved from the cutoff. It was 624,000 total, but Jose Miguel Esteban wanted to play for more. He re-shoved for about 1.4 million from the button, and everyone including Mestre ducked out of the way. Once more, it was a big coin flip for a big pot -- especially big for the at-risk Martinez.

Showdown
Martinez: {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs}
Esteban: {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades}

Martinez's pocket pair would hold strong as the board ran out {3-Hearts}{j-Spades}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}. With a sigh of relief, he's found his double, and it knocks Esteban down under 800,000 in the process.

Donk Lead Fails for Esteban

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

Jose Miguel Esteban was involved in a three-way pot with Raul Mestre and Saar Wilf. He tired a funky line but had to give up on the turn.

Mestre opened the pot with a raise to 66,000 from the cut-off and was called by Wilf in the cut-off and Esteban in the big blind. The flop came down {j-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and Esteban quickly led out for 160,000. Mestre took a while but called, Wilf folded.

The turn came {10-Clubs} and Esteban quickly checked and soon faced a 230,000 bet. He had no interest in continuing and folded to drop to 1,400,000.

Javier Contreras Eliminated in 14th Place (€29,000)

Javier Contreras has been eliminated in 14th place at the hands of Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov. Contreras was all in preflop with the {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and up against the {J-Hearts}{J-Spades} for Katchalov. No help came on the flop, turn or river and Katchalov's jacks held up in the flip.

Earning the elimination and collecting the chips of Contreras has moved Katchalov up over 2.4 million in chips.

Mestre Keeps Firing

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

From under the gun plus one, Raul Mestre raised to 66,000. Action folded to Juan Manuel Perez in the big blind and he made the call to see the {9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop. After Perez checked, Mestre bet 125,000. Perez called.

Fourth street was the {6-Spades} and Perez checked again. Mestre fired 360,000 and Perez folded.

De Meulder All-In

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Matthias De Meulder was all-in and had to sweat for five minutes as an opponent threatened to call.

The action folded to Dragan Kostic on the button and he put in a raise before the Belgian moved all-in from the small blind. Martin Schleich was in the big blind and sat and thought about calling for about five minutes before admitting defeat and folding. Kostic's hand quickly followed suit.

Evgeny Zaytsev Eliminated in 15th Place (€24,000)

Evgeny Zaytsev - 15th place
Evgeny Zaytsev - 15th place

Over on the featured table, a commotion drew our attention to an all-in-and-a-call situation. It was Evgeny Zaytsev who committed the last of his chips with {A-Spades} {K-Hearts}. Martin Schleich had the covering stack and the {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}, and the two men traded nervous smiles as they waited for the board.

The flop drew a big reaction as it came {Q-Spades} {4-Spades} {K-Clubs} to put Zaytsev in a big hole against Schleich's set of ladies. The turn {A-Hearts} was a good sweat though, and Zaytsev still had four outs to the win. But the river was the blank {10-Spades}, and that's not enough to get the Russian over the hump. He's been eliminated in 15th place, and he'll have to settle for a €24,000 consolation prize.
