"Cheers Roberto!"

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Roberto Romanello just asked for a ruling over on Table 1 which resulted in Mathew Frankland relinquishing his hand.

Frankland had opened the betting with a raise to 450 and he received callers in the shape of Tobias Garp, Maksim Kolosov and Carlomaria Fieri. The flop came down {J-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and Kolosov went to bet 1,300 but as he moved his arm forward he dropped two black 100 chips and the dealer initially ruled that this was a string bet and therefore Kolosov could only make a minimum bet. Fieri folded and Frankland put in the 200 chips but Romanello said he thought the bet of 1,300 should stand as Kolosov moved the chips towards the middle of the table in one fluid motion.

The floor was called and they ruled that the bet of 1,300 was valid. Frankland quickly folded, "Cheers Roberto!" he said to his table mate. They then discussed how they both thought the original bet of 1,300 was legitimate and all is well in the world again!

Mattern Folds a House to Slip Further

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Tough going for Mattern, so far.
Tough going for Mattern, so far.

Team PokerStars Pro Arnuad Mattern has slipped further, to 8,500, after folding to a river bet from Jeremy Nock. The board read {j-Clubs}{8-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{j-Spades} and Mattern checked to face a 2,500 bet, into a an 8,500 pot.

"You have a boat, right?" asked Mattern.

"Maybe you do too?" responded Knock.

The Frenchman took another minute and slid his cards into the muck. He came over to out blogging desk a minute later and told us he folded king-eight. A moment after that, Kock came over as well and said he held pocket Jacks. That Jack on the river probably cost him the rest of Mattern's stack.

Spot the Mistake

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

We joined the action on a board reading {J-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts} and with Albert Mikhailyta facing an all-in bet of 18,400 from Adam Jaguscik. Mikhailyta looked physically pained whilst trying to decide whether to make the call or not. After at least two minutes of counting out the required chips and talking to himself he nonchalantly tossed in 18,400 worth of chips and made the call.

Mikhailyta: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}
Jaguscik: {K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

Mikhailyta slammed down his aces in disgust at his opponent having made two pair on him but it is a good job he did not muck as it was pointed out that he had actually made two pair himself, a better two pair, and instead of being crippled he had actually doubled up and knocked out a player!

It certainly pays to pay attention!

The Welshman is On the Move

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Romanello is now sat to the right of Mathew Frankland
Romanello is now sat to the right of Mathew Frankland

The table hosting former EPT and WPT winner Roberto Romanello has been broken and the mercurial Welshman has been moved to table one, joining the likes of Maksim Kolosov, Mathew Frankland and Fernando Brito. We caught up with him playing in one of his first hands after the break.

Tobias Garp started it all off with a 525 raise from early position. Carlomaria Fieri three-bet from the small blind making it 1,100 to play and Romanello called in the big blind, action back to Garp who made it a threesome going to the flop.

Flop: {7-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}

Fieri liked the low-connected flop, and he bet 1,850. Romanello called but Garp folded.

Turn: {9-Clubs}

Fieri bet 2,800 this time and Romanello called.

River: {5-Clubs}

That was it folks, no more cards. Fieri bet 3,300 and Romanello went into the tank before eventually releasing his hand.

Numbers, a Bust-Out, and a Change of the Play Schedule

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Registration is closed and the Tournament Director has informed us that the official player number for today is 92. It's low but tomorrow's field should be a fair bit larger. Due to this low number there is no need to play nine levels today. We will now play seven levels with no dinner break.

The first player of the day is out. It took a surprisingly long two hours, twenty-five minutes before Andrea Pileri was awarded with that unfortunate tag.

Mattern Takes a Hit

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

We joined the action with everyone staring at a board of {j-Spades} {8-Spades} {9-Clubs} {8-Hearts} and the two combatants were Arnaud Mattern and Maris Keiriss. Keiriss checked out of the big blind, Mattern bet 3,800 and Keiriss called. The river was the {3-Spades} and Keiriss once again checked and Mattern bet 8,650 and Keiriss called. We didn't get to see the Mattern hand but we did see the winning hand; that belonged to Keiriss who was holding {q-} {q-}.

Rupert the Elder, Arnaud the Pro and Kinzel the Bag of Nerves

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Rupert Elder - on his way back?
Rupert Elder - on his way back?

Yulius Sepman delivered a hammer blow to Rupert Elder early in level one but he is experienced enough to be able to recover. The European Poker Tour San Remo winner has around 15,000 chips and we just saw him adding a few more to that number.

A very nervous and obviously inexperienced Sven Kinzel limped from early position and Team PokerStars Pro Arnaud Mattern made an isolation raise of 700 from the hi-jack. A few folds later and Rupert Elder called from the big blind before Kinzel took the triumvirate to the flop.

Flop: {10-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {2-Clubs}

Elder checked to Kinzel who let his nerves get the better of him when he made a string bet and the Dealer confirmed that the motion had to be declared as a call. Mattern raised it up to 1,550, Elder called and Kinzel folded.

Turn: {7-Hearts}

Checkity-checkity

River: {10-Hearts}

Elder took 2,200 from a stack of 7,000 and moved them across the line and Mattern insta-mucked.

Frankland Chipping Up Now

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Matthew Frankland's stack started heading south through the first two levels but level three is working out better for him. He's winning lots of small pots and is up to 39,000 now after a low of 27,000.

The last pot he won started with a Fernando Brito raise from mid position that picked up three callers, including Frankland himself in the big blind. The flop came {6-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and the Brit led for 875 and was only called by Carlomaria Fieri.

The turn fell as {j-Spades} and there was no slowing down Franlnad who fired 1,575. Fieri was convinced and his cards were soon muck bound.
