Ace High is Not Good for Georgiou

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Phidias Georgiou is down 18,000 after making a hero river call that turned out to be wrong. His opponent was Robert Brofeldt and the two made it to the river with around 10,000 chips in the middle. The board read {4-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and Georgiou checked from the small blind to face a 12,000 from his Swdish opponent on the button.

He took his time before rising to his feet and announcing the call. Brofeldt tabled {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for a set, beating Georgiou’s tabled {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}.

Ace High is Good for Bansi

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Praz Bansi made a standard pre flop raise and Christian Jeppson called.

Flop: {2-Spades} {4-Spades} {3-Hearts}

Bansi checked to Jeppson and Jeppson bet 600 and Bansi wasted no time in making the call.

Turn: {2-Diamonds}

Again Bansi checked and this time Jeppson bet 1,100. Bansi was not so quick to call this time around and instead took some time. He stared at Jeppson but the Swede wasn't giving off any information and just stared at the flop with his shades covering any potential tells. In the end Bansi decided he wanted to see a river and made the call.

River: {j-Hearts}

Bansi checked for a third time and a rather dejected Jeppson spun over {9-Spades} {8-Spades} for the stone cold bluff and Bansi showed him {a-Hearts} {q-Clubs} for the winning hand.

Bansi now has 38,000 and Jeppson is now sitting on 48,000.

Frankland Cracks Aces in Monster Pot!

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Mathew Frankland is up to 65,000 chips after his pocket kings cracked Carlomaria Fieri's aces, with the money going in preflop.

Marton Czuczor opened to 700 from late position and after Maksim Kolosov folded Fieri flat-called. Roberto Romanello folded on the button but Frankland raised it up to 2,050 from the small blind. Czuczor called then Fieri raised himself, this time to 6,700. Frankland then moved all in and when Czuczor folded Fieri instantly called.

Fieri: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}
Frankland: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}

Frankland looked in big trouble and even stood to leave but he need not have bothered as the flop came down {4-Hearts}{10-Spades}{K-Spades} gifting him top set. He still needed to avoid an ace and he did so as the turn and river were the {Q-Clubs} and {9-Spades} respectively to double up the Brit to 65,000 and leave Fieri with only 8,000 chips.

You may remember Frankland lost with queens against Fieri's jacks earlier in the day so some may say that balance has been restored.

Kurganov Leaves Himself Short

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Igot Kurganov is down to 13,000 chips after calling large bets preflop and on the flop, only to fold on a seemingly harmless turn.

It was Kurganov who opened the betting, his raise to 700 from the cutoff designed to pick up the blinds and antes. The raise was enough to fold out the button but not small blind Yury Romanovich who made it 2,625 to continue in the hand. Kurganov made the call and the dealer got busy fanning out the {10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{Q-Clubs} flop.

Romanovich bet four red 1,000 chips and Kurganov made the call after just a few seconds. The turn was the {2-Hearts} and Romanovich saw no reason to slow down and increased his bet to 7,000, which sent his opponent into the tank. The bet was effectively putting Kurganov all in as he only had 13,000 behind and it appears he did not want to play for stacks as he folded after around aminute of deliberation.

Four Betting Action - Vandersmissen v Kolosov

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Roberto Romanello was legging it over to table one - nearly breaking his neck in the process - and signifying that the break has ended. Welcome to level five and in the very first hand Maksim Kolosov has taken a bite out of the Kevin Vandersmissen stack.

Vandersmissen raised to 725 from early position and Kolosov three-bet to 1,725 just two seats to his left. Everyone folded back to Vandersmissen who four-bet to 4,200 and Kolosov made the call.

Flop: {10-Spades} {a-Clubs} {2-Diamonds}

Vandersmissen bet 3,200 and Kolosov once again raised, making it 7,500. Vandersmissen sunk his fist deep into his cheek and stared into the side of the face of Kolosov before making the call. The turn of {3-Hearts} was checked by both players and the dealer gave us the {8-Hearts} on the river. Vandersmissen checked and Kolosov bet 12,000. Vandersmissen separated the 12,000 from his stack and after a short pause made the call.

Kolosov won the hand with {a-Spades} {k-Hearts} and a dejected Vandersmissen mucked his cards.

Kolosov ~ 74,000
Vandersmissen ~ 17,000

Kapser Climbs the Chip Counts

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Katri Kasper, the only female in today's field, has just doubled up to more than 65,000 and is now amongst the chip leaders.

Kapser bet 700 from early position and after three players had folded Albert Mikhailyta three-bet to 1,350. The action folded back around to our lone female and she made the call. The dealer burned a card and put out the {K-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop. Kasper checked, Mikhailyta continued with a 3,500 bet only to see Kasper check-raise to 8,500. Mikhailyta almost immediately moved all and and Kasper snap-called.

Mikhailyta: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Kasper: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

Kasper's set of tens was way in front and when the {9-Spades} fell on the turn she was a lock in the hand. The inconsequential {6-Spades} landed on the river and Kasper is now armed with a huge stack of chips.

Buinovskis Takes On Vandersmissen

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

Jurijus Buinovskis has just helped himself to a substantial pot just seconds before the break, wrestling it from the grasp of the highly aggressive Kevin Vandersmissen.

Vandersmissen lead out for 800 on a {10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{A-Hearts} and Buinovskis called on the button. The {2-Spades} on the turn was greeted with another bet from Vandersmissen, this one 1,800 and again Buinovskis quickly called. The river was another deuce, this one of hearts and it slowed Vandersmissen down as he checked. Buinovskis was in no mood for checking the hand down and he wasted no time in moving all in for what turned out to be 7,120. Vandersmissen folded and the players headed out of the door for a well deserved break.
