Selbst Check-Raises Turn

Vanessa Selbst
Vanessa Selbst

From early position, Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst raised to 2,700. Action folded over to Sergio Castelluccio in middle position and he made the call. On the button, Radoslaw Wielewicki called and then Salman Behbehani called from the big blind.

The flop came down {Q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and action checked around to see the {K-Clubs} land on the turn. Behbehani checked, as did Selbst. Castelluccio bet 5,200 and play folded back to Selbst. She tanked for a long time and then put in a raise to 14,100. Castelluccio thought for a bit as well, but eventually folded his hand and allowed Selbst to take the pot.

Monsterpotten!

Kevin Ayow is on a tear today. He'd already claimed two knockouts today when we walked up to see him involved in the biggest pot of the tournament.

We only saw some of the action, Praz Bansi six- or seven-bet shoved for 111,500. By that point, he was heads up with Kevin Ayow, and he needed another 74,200 to match the shove. He spent a long hard soak in the tank, but he eventually made the huge call for around two-thirds of his own chips. With about 250,000 chips piled in the pot, the cards were on their backs.

Showdown
Bansi: {K-Spades} {J-Spades}
Ayow: {8-Hearts} {8-Spades}

Wow! When the dealer burned and turned up the flop, the {8-Diamonds} was visible right in the window. The flop brought a king too, but the {10-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} was a disaster for Bansi. He picked up a few outs on the {9-Spades} turn, but the river {2-Diamonds} has sent him on his way.

With that massive pot, Ayow has claimed the tournament life of Bansi and skyrocketed all the way up to 375,000. "My first thought was that he was squeezing," Ayow said as he stacked up.

Theo Jorgensen

Team PokerStars Pro Theo Jorgensen raised to 3,000 and Robert August Deppe reraised to 7,500. Jorgensen four-bet to 22,000 and Deppe moved all in, having Jorgensen covered. Jorgensen quickly called.

Jorgensen: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Deppe: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

The board ran out {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{4-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and Jorgensen doubled.

Maciukas Bests Veldhuis

On the {7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} board, Marius Maciukas checked to Team PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis and he bet 10,800. Maciukas called and the river landed with the {10-Clubs}. Maciukas checked and Veldhuis checked.

Maciukas tabled the {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a club flush and Veldhuis the {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. Maciukas' hand was best and he won the pot.

Another Three-Way

Dario Sammartino got his short stack of 15,600 into the middle preflop with {K-Spades} {K-Hearts}, and he found action from Fabrizio Leonardi ({A-Hearts} {Q-Spades}) and Jean-Philippe Rohr ({A-Clubs} {K-Clubs}).

The board ran {10-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {4-Spades}, and Sammartino's kings held strong to triple him up. He's back to about 50,000 now, and Leonardi wins the side pot. It's the second time he's gotten lucky when all in with ace-queen, and he's lost a few chips in that exchange to drop to 21,200.
