Deeb Rebounds

After a rough start, Shaun Deeb has climbed back to just greater than the starting stack.

Picking up the action on a {K-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop, Eric Van Der Burg checked to Deeb who bet 1,450. Van Der Burg, though, popped it to 3,100. Deeb took a few moments before calling to see the {K-Diamonds} turn. Van Ber Burg fired 5,700, but was unable to shake Deeb.

"How much you have behind?" asked Van Der Burg.

"9,500," said Deeb after a quick look.

The river brought the {2-Diamonds} river and Van Der Burg checked. Deeb quickly checked behind, happy to see Van Der Burg flip over {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}.

{10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} is what Deeb tabled, taking down the pot and increasing his stack to about 32,000.

Mad Max

2011 EPT San Remo runner-up Max Heinzelmann isn't off to the best of starts here in Deauville.

The German's aggressive play had him down under the 20k mark, but he just managed to pick up a pot and right the ship somewhat just before the break.

Heinzelmann made it 400 under the gun and was only called by the player in the big blind. He made a 700-chip c-bet on the {j-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop and was called again.

But after the {8-Spades} turn and a 1,350 bet, Heinzelmann managed to get the Big Blind to fold.

He Comes From a Land Down Under

Just a few days ago Craig Cockburn was in the warmer surroundings of Melbourne's Crown Casino playing the Aussie Millions festival. He came onto our radar at PokerNews after a series of deep runs; the best being a $30,800 AUD score for a 4th place finish in the $1k Six Handed event.

Cockburn is playing today after getting in last night on the back of a 30-hour journey. This is his first ever poker tournament in Europe and he told us he's feeling fresh and looking forward to his week here.

Archambeaud Marching

Etienne Archambeaud has jumped into a spot among the early leaders here in Deauville after a massive pot moments ago.

The action began with a 400 chip bet from Archambeaud under the gun. Petru Moraru responded with a raise, making it 1,075 from the cutoff. However, Sebastian Winkler had other ideas, four-betting it up to 2,750.

Archambeaud took his time about it, but came in with a fifth bet, making it 5,500 and after Moraru tossed his hand in the muck, Winkler six-bet it up to 11k. Archambeaud made the call and checked the {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop.

Winkler made it 4,500 and Archambeaud flatted, forcing the dealer to reveal the {10-Hearts} turn. Archambeaud checked again, but when Winkler made it 5,500, he shipped it in for an additional 8,100.

This sent Winkler deep into thought and after a good three minutes, Archambeaud called the clock. With just 13,800 left in his stack, Winkler folded, claiming he held ace-king as Archambeaud dragged one of the biggest pots of the early going without showdown.

Frankland Pays Off Finney

Mathew Frankland seemed to know he was beat by the river but couldn't find that fold button.

The action was three-way to a {4-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{k-Hearts} flop and Frankland's 625 bet was only called by Richard Finney on the button. Frankland checked the {5-Hearts} turn and called when faced with a 1,250 bet. The river fell as {6-Diamonds} and the Brit checked to face a 1,900 bet. He let out a big breath of air as he pondered his decision and then he tossed in the calling chips.

Finney tabled {6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a flush he made on the turn. Frankland mucked.
