Tuna Busts to Segebrecht

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Akin Tuna
Akin Tuna

As we arrived, Claas Segebrecht was already stacking chips and Akin Tuna helped move over his last chips. Dominik Nitsche filled us in what had just happened.

Tuna had opened from the button and Segebrecht had three-bet from the big blind. Tuna then four-bet and was committed to call the five-bet shove that followed.

Tuna was in bad shape with {K-}{Q-} off as Segebrecht had {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}. The board ran out {8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and Tuna made his exit from the tournament for the second time.

Fedor Holz Doubles Through Paul Newey

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Fedor Holz
Fedor Holz

Fedor Holz raised to 5,500 from the cutoff and Paul Newey called in the big blind. The flop came {10-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Newey checked and Holz bet 4,500. Newey then check-raised to 15,000.

Holz then announced that he was all in, and Newey asked for a count. Holz's effective stack was 53,000 and Newey put the chips out to call.

Paul Newey: {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Fedor Holz: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Newey had flopped top pair, but Holz's overpair was ahead. The turn was the {8-Clubs} and the river the {5-Diamonds} as Holz doubled up.

Bedell Busts Zhu

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

With around 70,000 in the middle and the flop reading {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, Guanfei Zhu checked out of the big blind. Tom-Aksell Bedell on the button bet 40,000 and Zhu then check-raised all in. Bedell quickly called and both players had almost even stacks.

Zhu: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}
Bedell: {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

Neither the {7-Clubs} turn nor the {9-Diamonds} river improved Zhu and the stacks were counted. Bedell had 201,500 and Zhu less than that to join the rail.

Thomas Sees Through Bedell

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Julian Thomas
Julian Thomas

Tom-Aksel Bedell didn't hold on to his newly acquired chips very long, as he just had to send over a chunk to Julian Thomas. Steffen Sontheimer opened to 7,000 on the button and Bedell called from the small blind. Thomas reraised to 22,000 from the big blind, Sontheimer folded, and Bedell called.

Bedell checked the {J-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop to Thomas, who continued with 16,000. Bedell check-raised to 36,000, and Thomas called. Bedell had no intention of slowing down, as he fired 40,000 on the {A-Clubs} turn and 80,000 on the {2-Hearts} river.

Thomas called off both of Bedell's bets, and the Norwegian qualifier showed {J-Spades}{9-Hearts} for jacks and nines. Thomas tabled {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} for aces up to rake in the sizable pot.

Christopher Kruk Calls the Clock on Anton Astapau

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

The board reads {3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{5-Hearts} with around 160,000 chips in the pot already in a pot between Christopher Kruk and Anton Astapau.

Astapau is first to act and he bets 45,000 on the river. After some thought Kruk then raises to 120,000. Atapau goes deep into the tank, and eventually Kruk calls the clock. The seconds tick away and with six seconds left Astapau flicks his cards into the muck.

No Medals for Silver

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Max Silver
Max Silver

We arrived on the river but one of our colleagues from the PokerStars Blog filled us in on the details after the hand was done.

From first position, Moritz Dietrich raised to 7,000 and his neighbor John Juanda called. Max Silver called on the button before Julian Stuer squeezed from the big blind to 56,000. Both Dietrich and Juanda folded, Silver made the call.

Stuer and Silver checked the {Q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop and {2-Diamonds} turn, before Stuer open shoved the {6-Clubs} river for 288,000. Silver had just a little less than that behind, and tanked for some time before eventually tossing in a single chip to indicate the call.

Stuer showed {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} for top set and Silver open mucked his {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} before leaving the table with hanging shoulders.

Koon Bests Kornuth

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Jason Koon raised to 6,500 from early position and Chance Kornuth from two seat over as well as Christian Christner in the big blind called.

The flop of {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} was checked by Christner and Koon bet 10,000. Kornuth called, whereas Christner folded.

On the {3-Spades} turn, Koon checked and called a bet of 27,500 by Kornuth before the {3-Clubs} on the river went check, check. Koon was the first after the button and showed {K-Spades}{10-Diamonds}, Kornuth was unable to beat that and mucked.

Kitai's Ace-King Wins

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Murad Akhundov defended his big blind and checked the flop of {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. Initial raiser Davidi Kitai continued for 13,500 and Akhundov called.

After the {3-Spades} turn, Akhundov checked and Kitai made it 28,000 to go, which Akhundov called.

The {8-Spades} river completed the board and the Azerbaijani checked for a third time. Kitai bet 56,000 and Akhundov reluctantly called it off to see Kitai turn over {A-Spades}{K-Spades} as winning hand.
