Paris Eliminated

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

The player under the gun raised to 1,100 and got two callers. Vambo Laud was in the cutoff and squeezed to 4,700. Bryan Paris was in the small blind and four-bet to 12,000. Laud moved all in for 29,400 and Paris called. Laud held pocket aces and was up against the ace-king suited of Paris. The Aces held, flopping a flush draw and rivering the nut flush to leave Paris with 2,500 in chips.

Paris got it in the very next hand with {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} against the {8-Hearts}{9-Clubs} of an opponent. The {6-Spades}{j-Spades}{4-Spades} was good for Paris, with neither playing holding a spade. The turn was the {10-Clubs} giving his opponent a straight draw, and the river was the {q-Clubs} completing his straight and eliminating Paris.

Small Pots Only

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

With the turn reading {10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and around 6,000 in the middle. Oleg Titov check-raised all in for his last 8,800 and joked "Russian style" to his sole opponent Saar Wilf. The latter had bet 2,200 and took more than two minutes before folding. "Good fold any way," Titov added with a grin.

On the heads-up flop of {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades}, Andrei Boghean bet 1,200 in the cutoff and Christopher Frank called on the button. The {9-Clubs} turn paired the board and Boghean checked, then called a bet of 1,800 by Frank. Both ended up checking the {A-Spades} river and Boghean was first to show, flipped over {7-Spades}{6-Spades}, and that won the pot.

Leo Fernandez defended his big blind against a button raise to 1,100 by Joe Mouawad, and Alfredo Wilhelm also called in the small blind. Three-ways to the {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop, Wilhelm bet 1,200 and Fernandez folded, while Mouawad called. Wilhelm bet twice more, for 3,200 on the {6-Hearts} turn and 4,200 on the {8-Spades} river, and Mouawad called to get shown {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. That was enough for Wilhelm to scoop the pot.

Hallaert Eliminated

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

The cards were on their backs between Kenny Hallaert holding {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} against the {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} of Ahmed Fatah. Hallaert was the player all in for his last 14,500.

There was no help for the former November Niner on the {5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades}{8-Clubs} and he was left to ponder a re-entry in the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo©Casino EPT Main Event.

The Tides Are Changing on Table One

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Juan Pardo had been eliminated by Sosia Jiang over on table one and Hady El Asmar is no longer the dominating chip leader either after doubling Paul Newey in the previous level. In a three-way three-bet pot with Josip Simunic and El Asmar, Newey had moved all in for two times the pot size on a jack-high flop with hearts flush draw and El Asmar called with {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for top pair. Newey's {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs} for the overpair held up and the Brit is the current chip leader on the table.

A Day to Forget for Nguyen

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

Thi Xoa Nguyen, who finished 14th in the 2016 EPT Monte-Carlo Main Event for €47,980, was spotted on the way out of the tournament area and confirmed that she had been eliminated. "It was a day to forget. I had ace-king several times but always had to fold on the river when a flush came. I will most likely play again tomorrow," Nguyen mentioned. Thanks to the single re-entry option, she can have another shot at EPT glory in either Day 1a, Day 1b or before the start of Day 2.

Juan Pardo will also have to do so after joining the rail recently, along with Dimitri Huley and Mete Ustuay.
