Fernandez Thrives Early On

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

After a limp by Evangelos Bechrakis and a raise to 900 by Jimmy Guerrero on the button, Luis Fernandez came along from the big blind and Bechrakis also called. On a flop of {6-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs}, action checked to Guerrero and his bet of 1,000 was called by both opponents. The {9-Hearts} fell on the turn and again it was Guerrero who bet 3,800. This time, only Fernandez called and the duo then checked down the {9-Clubs} river.

Fernandez rolled over the {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and that won the pot, boosting the stack of Fernandez up even further as he now sits on more than two times of what he started with at noon.

Le Touche Among the Early Big Stacks

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

Julian Thomas opened the action with a raise to 500 and Philippe Le Touche three-bet to 1,800 in the small blind. Jean-Noel Thorel in the big blind made it 4,200 to go and Thomas quickly folded. Le Touche had other plans and five-bet to 12,600. Thorel gave it some thought and folded, while his fellow countryman flashed the {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}.

The same table also features Thomas Muehloecker as well, who is below the starting stack, while Le Touche appears to be the early chip leader on Day 1a.

Casualties; Jams and New Entries

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

Towards the end of the second level of the day, Arthur Conan and Nick Petrangelo busted.

Dominykas Karmazinas was also on the brink of elimination but got through with a jam against Tibor Nagygyorgy when betting 2,000 on the {Q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop and picking up a call from the Hungarian. On the {7-Spades} turn, Karmazinas moved all in for 15,400 and Nagygyorgy folded after three minutes of consideration.

Mete Ustuay raised to 300 and picked up one caller. Markku Koplimaa three-bet to 2,000 and Ustuay as well as the third player in the hand both called. The three-way flop of {5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades} was checked through and the {J-Clubs} fell on the turn. Komplimaa checked and Ustuay's bet of 5,000 forced two folds.

New entries on Day 1a include Jean-Noel Thorel, Ryan Riess, Stefan Huber and Vladimir Troyanovskiy
