A massive Day 1c field of 1,433 entries filled the King’s Casino Prague to create record-breaking numbers for the EPT Prague €1,100 Eureka Main Event.

The 1,433 unique entries were the most ever in a single flight for a Eureka / EPT Prague National Main Event, and before Day 1d had even begun, the record for total entries in the entire event had already been broken.

That news was just the beginning of the evening’s excitement as with such a huge field, nearly two extra levels of play were needed to reach the final 15% (215 players), who would advance to Day 2.

Once the dust finally settled, massive stacks had been created with Maxime Costas bringing 736,000 into Tuesday’s play. Not far behind him were Adam Polek (735,000) and Emmanuel Kahan (719,000), who will join Costas with the biggest stacks in the room to start Day 2.

Other notables to advance to Day 2 with healthy stacks include 2016 EPT Barcelona Main Event champion Sebastian Malec (390,000), 2016 WCOOP Main Event champion Jonas Lauck (284,000), and former EPT Prague champions Salvatore Bonavena (284,000) and Jasper Meijer Van Putten (175,000)

Big Names on the Bubble

Those extra two levels saw a lengthy ‘soft-bubble’, with among others, Vivian Saliba, David Lappin, and Julien Martini eliminated near the end of the night. Martini in fact was eliminated in 217th place, just two away from the bubble when his opponent flopped quad threes against Martini’s ace-king.

Dara O’Kearney was very short most of the late part of the evening, getting his final 50,000 in just three away from the money. His opponent chose to fold, and O’Kearney showed him pocket aces. The author and podcast host would squeeze that short stack over the finish line to advance to Day 2 with 97,000 chips.

Highlights of the Day

With so much action throughout the day, some wild hands occurred, including the classic aces versus kings cooler ending in a shocking way, and a player’s lapse in attention costing him his entire tournament.

Next Up, Day 2!

The final 214 players from this flight will now join the survivors of the three other flights for Day 2 at noon local time.
PokerNews will have you covered for all the rest of the action from this record-breaking event, and every event from EPT Prague.

Double Elimination on the Bubble

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Steven Houghland
Steven Houghland

Action was halted and a crowd gathered with two players, Steve Houghland, and Petr Segl facing elimination.

Preflop, Petr Segl raised to 20,000 in early position and was called by Dany De Barros in the small blind. Houghland was all-in on the big blind for his remaining chips.

The flop came {7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}, and after De Barros checked, Segl moved in for his last 49,000, putting himself at risk of missing the money as well.

De Barros called, setting up the possible double elimination.

Steven Houghland:{k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Petr Segl: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Dany De Barros: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

De Barros was in great shape to provide the double knockout and send everyone home after almost two full extra levels of play.

After the dealer put down the {6-Clubs} and {10-Spades}, a roar went through the tournament area as the bubble burst, with Houghland and Segl both eliminated and sent home without any money.

Meanwhile, the surviving 214 players all earn a min-cash and will return Tuesday for Day 2.

Classic Race Vaults Putz Toward Leaders

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Andreas Putz opened the action with a raise to 14,000 in middle position. Michel Leibgorin asked Putz how much he had behind.

Putz had Leibgorin well covered, but the Frenchman declared he was all in for approximately 100,000. Play folded back around to Putz, who quickly called.

Michel Leibgorin: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Andreas Putz: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}, eliminating Leibgorin, and moving Putz near the 500,000 chip mark.

Lappin Eliminated by Many Aces

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
David lappin
David lappin

David Lappin's seat was recently discovered to be empty, and his tournament executioner Ion Tabacaru relayed the gory details of Lappin's elimination to PokerNews.

According to Tabacaru, Lappin shoved his final 50,000 chips into the middle with {q-}{j-}, and smashed into Tabacaru's {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}.

The {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{j-} flop instantly finished Lappin, as Tabacaru flopped quad aces to send Lappin out the door just shy of the money and a trip to Day 2.

Meanwhile at a nearby table, Lappin's Chip Race co-host Dara O'Kearney is nursing a stack of 84,000 as he tries to avoid his partner's fate in the tournament.
