Lawson Gets There

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante

Zak Lawson was in the big blind in a heads-up pot against Askar Bekbayev in the hijack on a monotone board of {10-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.

Lawson checked on the flop and Bekbayev bet 1,200. Lawson called. Lawson checked again on the {q-Diamonds} turn and Bekbayev checked back.

Lawson checked a third time on the {7-Clubs} river and Bekbayev also checked, leading Lawson to turn over the winner with {a-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for a rivered flush and bringing a wince out of Bekbayev.

An Orbit with the Tag Team Champions

Level 6 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Espen Jorstad
Espen Jorstad

Poker tournament seat draws often throw up interesting little quirks. For example, yesterday the 2019 WSOP Main Event winner and runner-up — Hossein Ensan and Dario Sammartino — were seated at the same table.

Today it's the turn of the reigning WSOP Main Event champion Espen Jorstad, and his Tag Team bracelet-winning partner Patrick Leonard to be sat at the same table. PokerNews sat in on an orbit to see if the two would tangle or leave each other alone.

Patrick Leonard & Espen Jørstad Win 2022 WSOP Event #55: $1,000 Tag Team ($148,067)

Hand #1: On the very first hand, Espen Jorstad raised from the cutoff to 1,200 and it folded to Patrick Leonard in the big blind who folded.

Hand #2: It folded around to Leonard in the small blind who limped blind on blind against Timo Kamphues who raised to 1,800. Leonard called and the pair checked the {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop and turn.

Leonard bet 1,000 on the {a-Clubs} river and Kamphues folded.

Hand #3: Both Jorstad and Leonard folded.

Hand #4: Jorstad and Leonard both folded.

Patrick Leonard

Hand #5: Jorstad folded from under the gun and Leonard folded the hijack.

Hand #6: Rehman Kassam raised to 1,000 and Patrick Leonard three-bet to 3,200. Kassam called.

Kassam check-called 4,200 on the {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop and the pair checked the {j-Diamonds} turn. The river was the {7-Clubs} and Kassam bet 16,000. Leonard folded.

Hand #7: Leonard folded and Jorstad didn't defend his small blind.

Hand #8: Leonard folded from under the gun, with Espen Jorstad raising to 1,100 from the button. Kassam defended his big blind. The pair checked the {q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop and Kassam check-folded to a bet of 1,000 on the {j-Hearts} turn.

Loosli Booted After Losing to Routier's Rockets

Level 6 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Sylvain Loosli
Sylvain Loosli

Peter Jaksland opened to 1,300 from under the gun and Sylvain Loosli three-bet to 3,500 from the next seat over. Jeremy Routier then cold four-bet jammed from the cutoff, leading Jaksland to fold.

Loosli gave an unhappy shrug and called off with his stack of around 19,000.

Sylvain Loosli: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Jeremy Routier: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}

Loosli had run into aces and received no help as the board ran out {8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades} to mark the Frenchman's elimination.

Kitai vs Miller

Level 6 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

An informal agreement had spread at Table 11 that a player would have to show one card randomly when taking down a pot.

On the very next hand Adam Miller raised to 1,400 and called a three-bet from Davidi Kitai to 4,200.

Miller check-called bets of 2,800 on the {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop and 9,500 on the {k-Diamonds} turn.

Both players checked the {6-Spades} river. Miller showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} for the nut flush and Kitai mucked.

"Had to show two there!" he joked, chipping up to around 45,000.

He sits at a table between Chris Maguire PokerStars Ambassador Ben Spragg.

Ullereng Almost Gets Aces Cracked, Ends Up With Aces Full

Level 6 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Mats Ullereng
Mats Ullereng

There was a rollercoaster runout for the ages at Table 32 after Mats Ullereng got his stack of 40,900 in from the small blind against Wayne Heung on the button, who had him covered.

Mats Ullereng: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Wayne Heung: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

The preflop cooler became a real sweat when the flop landed {9-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} to give Heung a flush draw. Ullereng let out a sigh as the {a-Diamonds} peeled off on the turn to give his opponent the lead with a flush but also leaving him hope with a set.

The whole table was left silent when the dealer then peeled off the {j-Hearts} on the river to give Ullereng a full house to double up. Heung, who looked defeated after likely experiencing a variety of motions throughout the hand, was left short and was eliminated a few hands later.
