Life Outside Poker: Why HCL Boss Ryan Feldman Was Kicked Out of the WSOP Main Event

Ryan Feldman, co-owner of Hustler Casino Live, revealed on PokerNews' Life Outside Poker podcast that he was kicked out of the 2016 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event over a conflict of interest stemming from his employment at ESPN.

In the 16th episode of the podcast, host Connor Richards speaks with the producer/founder of the most popular livestream in poker history about why he was booted from poker's biggest tournament, along with numerous other topics such as sports journalism, interviewing star athletes, leaving ESPN to start a poker stream, founding HCL and putting together some of the most entertaining lineups in poker history.

This interview was filmed in July at the 2024 WSOP inside Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

Timmer Gets the Maximum from Mavritsakis

Panagiotis Mavritsakis raised to 55,000 from the cutoff, Javey Timmer three-bet to 125,000 from middle position and Mavritsakis clicked it back to 210,000. Timmer called.

Mavritsakis continued for 45,000 on the J♠10♣6♣ flop, Timmer raised to 150,000 and Mavritsakis called.

The 7♥ turn saw Mavritsakis play in flow. Timmer moved all in for 305,000 and Mavritsakis called.

Timmer was ahead but Mavritsakis had plenty of outs, however, the 3♠ river wasn't one of them and Timmer doubled up.

Nick Palma opened to 50,000 from the hijack and was three-bet to 125,000 by Stephen Song on the button. Jorge Artiga-Pacheco used a time bank in the big blind before moving all in for 375,000.

Palma used a time bank of his own before folding, but Song called to put Pacheco at risk.

"This is a Stephen Song special," chirped Palma as the cards were revealed.

The board came 10♦4♥2♦9♠K♥ as Pacheco rivered a pair of kings to score the double-up.

Yunkyu Song raised to 60,000 from under the gun, receiving calls from Firoz Mangroe in the hijack and Vladimir Erceg, in the big blind.

The 5♠Q♦J♠ flop checked through to the A♦ on the turn. Erceg checked and Song placed a delayed continuation bet of 75,000. Both players called.

The A♣ river prompted a check from Erceg. Song bombed the river with a bet of approximately 450,000, leaving himself just 120,000 behind the line. Mangroe and Erceg quickly foled.

Jack Sinclair opened A♠Xx to 75,000 from the cutoff and Harry Lodge called from the small blind with 8♥8♦. Jianwei Lin then squeezed to 300,000 from the big blind holding A♦3♦, which got Sinclair to fold, and Lodge called.

The flop came 4♥7♣9♦ where Lodge checked, Lin bet 180,000, and Lodge called.

A 2♦ on the turn saw Lodge check for a second time, then Lin bet 500,000. Lodge thought for a while before he folded.

Govert Metaal limped in from under the gun with 2♠2♥ and Rania Nasreddine limped from the cutoff holding 5♠4♦. Jose Barbosa checked from the big blind with J♦10♥.

All three checked the 6♦8♣2♣ flop to the 9♥ turn. Barbosa bet 60,000 then Metaal raised to 180,000. Nasreddine folded, and Barbosa followed suit.
