Dario Pieruzzini raised to 20,000 from the cutoff, and only Konstantyn Holskyi called from the button.
The 9♦A♠5♣ flop caused both players to check and see the 6♣ appear on the turn. Pieruzzini checked for a second time, but Holskyi fired out a bet of 20,000. Pieruzzini quickly called.
Another two checks followed the 3♥ river, and Pieruzzini tabled 7♦7♣ for a pair of sevens. This was second-best to the Q♠9♠ of Holskyi for second pair, and the pot was sent to him
Matthew McEwan opened to 20,000 from under the gun and Kevin Houghton defended in the big blind.
Houghton checked on the flop of 6♦4♠J♦ and McEwan continued for 20,000. Houghton called. Houghton checked again on the Q♥ turn and McEwan sized up to 92,000. Houghton laid it down.
Javier Tazon raised to 20,000 in the hijack, Julien Sitbon three-bet to 47,000 in the cutoff, and Tazon called.
The flop came Q♦5♦2♥ and Sitbon continued for 42,000. Tazon called and both players checked the 9♥ turn.
The river was the 3♦ and Tazon moved all in, having Sitbon's remaining 160,000 covered. Sitbon took a few moments before folding, and Tazon claimed the pot.
At another table, Lauri Saaskilahti moved all in for 414,000 in the small blind and Anton Suarez put him at risk on the button.
Lauri Saaskilahti: A♣Q♦
Anton Suarez: Q♠Q♥
Saaskilahti was looking for an ace to survive and found it on the A♥10♠3♣ flop, leaving Suarez with just one out. The rest of the board ran out 8♣5♣ and Saaskilahti doubled up.
Artus Gimenez min-raised to 20,000 from the hijack and Nicolas Tytgat jammed for 270,000 from the cutoff. Gimenez called to try to send Tytgat to the rail earlier than he had planned.
Nicolas Tytgat: A♦J♥
Artus Gimenez: Q♣Q♦
Tytgat was behind to the ladies of Gimenez and was unable to improve enough on the 10♣J♦8♠K♠10♦ runout to win the pot. Tytgat exited the tournament and Gimenez was up to over a million.
Karl Karlsson opened to 20,000 from the button and faced Alexandr Kilennikov who defended from the big blind.
Both of them quickly checked the 10♣J♣Q♣ flop and the 5♣ turn, but Kilennikov led out for 20,000 on the Q♦ river. Karlsson raised to 80,000, Kilennikov reraised all in for 135,000, and Karlsson snap-called.
Alexandr Kilennikov: A♣8♦
Karl Karlsson: Q♥J♥
Both players were trapping each other, but Karlsson had the last word by hitting a full house on the river to eliminate Kilennikov.
Heads-up on a flop of K♦3♦J♣, Thomas Eychenne bet 15,000 from the hijack and Fabiano Kovalski called in the big blind.
The turn was the J♦ and Kovalski led out for 18,000. Eychenne called and the Q♠ fell on the river. Kovalski then bet 20,000, and Eychenne used two time banks before announcing all in.
Kovalski had around 250,000 remaining and tanked for a minute before folding. Eychenne allowed him to pick one of his cards, and Kovalski chose the Q♣.
At the same time at another table, Alejandro Romero had opened to 20,000 under the gun and Lirong Hu Yu called in the hijack. Steve O'Dwyer then reraised to 190,000 in the cutoff, leaving only a few chips behind, and Romero shoved all in. Yu folded, but O'Dwyer quickly put in the rest of his stack.
Steve O'Dwyer: 9♠9♥
Alejandro Romero: Q♣Q♥
Yu told O'Dwyer what he folded as the flop came A♠K♦10♣. "Why would you tell me that?" O'Dwyer said incredulously.
"You're never supposed to say," Romero added. The turn was the A♥, while the 3♦ river was no help to O'Dwyer as the EPT champion was sent to the rail, but not before shooting Yu another annoyed look.
Chongxian Yang raised to 22,000 from the hijack before Joao Webber three-bet to 63,000 from the button. Once the blinds folded, Yang continued in the form of a call.
Upon seeing the 5♦6♥7♥ flop fall, Yang checked the action over to Webber, who fired out a bet of 35,000. Yang didn't take long to put together a check-raise to 100,000. Webber made the call to see a turn.
A K♠ dropped on the turn and Yang decided to check. Webber tossed out 80,000, and Yang went into the tank. After using a few of his time bank cards, Yang returned his cards to the dealer and forfeited the pot to Webber.
