Aleksandr Shevliakov did his best impersonation of his fictional compatriot last year at the final table of the PokerStars European Poker Tour Monte-Carlo Main Event held at Sporting Monte-Carlo.

Shevliakov, barely cracking a smile or displaying any hint of the pressure of the moment, seized the chip lead early and powered through the rest of the final table on his way to hoisting the Golden Shard trophy and taking home the €1,000,000 first prize after defeating Ukrainian amateur Khossein Kokhestani heads-up and conquering the 1,195-player field.

Three-way to a 9♥2♥5♥ flop, Yuhan Wang and Benny Glaser checked from the blinds to Stefan Heizmann on the button. Heizmann placed a bet of 3,000, which Wang raised to 9,000.

Glaser quickly got out of the way, but Heizmann called to the 6♦ turn. After a bit of thought, Wang shoved all in for 40,000. Heizmann called once he confirmed the amount.

Li went deep into the tank, eventually deciding to call off his stack of 71,500 to put himself at risk of elimination.
