Thomas Eychenne Leads 48 Survivors After Day 3 of EPT Monte-Carlo Main Event

Level 19 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Thomas Eychenne
Thomas Eychenne

Less than a year after his iconic victory in the 2025 EPT Barcelona Main Event, Thomas Eychenne is gearing up for another deep run at a history-rich PokerStars European Poker Tour stop, as he leads the field on the hunt for the prestigious EPT trophy and the €825,000 top prize after Day 3 of the 2026 EPT Monte-Carlo €5,300 Main Event.

Eychenne was one of the 48 players still standing from the field of 1,011 entries at Sporting Monte-Carlo at the end of the night and shoveled the massive amount of 1,846,000 into his bag, good for over 150 big blinds when play resumes. Moroccan all-time money leader Mehdi Chaoui also had a stellar day and sits in second with 1,686,000, closely followed by 2015 EPT Deauville champion Ognyan Dimov (1,634,000) and Team PokerStars' Raul Mestre, the latter of which made a splendid hero-call on his way to a stack of 1,627,000.

The 2023 EPT Monte-Carlo runner-up Leonard Maue and 2024 winner Derk van Luijk both ended Day 3 with top ten stacks as well, looking for repeat success at this legendary venue as they eye one of the bigger shares of the €4,903,350 prize pool.

The rest of the field is no less stacked than the top ten. Dimitar Danchev and Jason Wheeler recorded their 21st and 20th cashes in an EPT Main Event, respectively. They both made Day 4, with Danchev sitting on 340,000 chips and Wheeler having bagged 508,000. High-stakes prodigy Bernhard Binder finished the night with 740,000, while start-of-day chipleader Rodrigo Selouan ended up with 547,000 after a rough day. Meanwhile, Benny Glaser and Joao Vieira are among the shorter stacks, bringing stacks of 278,000 and 105,000 into Day 4.

On the other side of the coin, 2009 EPT Warsaw winner Christophe Benzimra (151st - €9,200) was the first casualty of Day 3, with fellow champion Hossein Ensan and PokerStars ambassador Maria Konnikova receiving the same amount not much later. David Lappin played his first EPT Main Event under the Red Spade flag, but fell in 74th for €12,150, while Finnish poker legend Juha Helppi was among the final eliminations of the night after a fatal encounter with Eychenne, cashing €16,100 for his 55th-place finish.

The remaining 48 players have secured the same amount, with a pay jump to €18,500 happening when 39 remain. Six-figure prizes are waiting for the top seven finishers, while making the final table will guarantee a payout of €99,450.

Laurent Polito open-raised from the cutoff and called button Miroslav Rizov's subsequent three-bet to 65,000. Rizov continued for 45,000 on the 275 flop, seeing his opponent check-call.

The 7 turn then checked through to the Q river, where Polito flicked in a small bet of 25,000. Rizov announced a sizable raise to 225,000, which Polito called after some thought.

Rizov revealed K2 for a flush, and Polito nodded his head in acknowledgement before mucking his cards in defeat.

Just prior, Raul Mestre had eliminated Manuel Braunhofer at another table.

Mestre's Massive Call Wins Biggest Pot of Tournament

Level 18 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Picking up the action on a 635 flop, Yurii Zabrodotskyi bet 25,000 under the gun, and Raul Mestre raised to 85,000 in the hijack. Zabrodotskyi called to the 7 turn, which both players checked.

Zabrodostkyi then made a gargantuan shove of 615,000 when the 10 river appeared, a bet worth around three times the pot. Mestre went deep into the tank, talking to himself while agonizing over his decision.

Eventually, he slammed in a tower of chips to call. Zabrodotskyi could only show ace-high with A9, and Mestre let out a sigh of relief as he triumphantly showed 44 for a straight.

Zabrodotskyi hurried out of the tournament area, while Mestre stacked up his new chips and retook his lead over the rest of the field.

EPT Monte-Carlo Main Event Returns In The Money, as Day 3 Gets Underway at Noon

EPT Monte-Carlo
EPT Monte-Carlo

Returning to the €5,300 Main Event at Sporting Monte-Carlo, the 151 surviving players from Day 2 will have slept a little easier, knowing they had each locked up a minimum payout of €9,200 after navigating the bubble and making it into the money.

With that milestone secured, attention now turns from survival to accumulation, as players look to build stacks capable of going the distance and competing for the €825,000 top prize and the coveted Golden Shard trophy at the Monte Carlo leg of the PokerStars European Poker Tour.

Already ahead of the curve, Rodrigo Selouan leads the star-studded field into Day 3, having amassed a 933,000 stack across the opening two days.

Also beginning the day with a top-ten stack, Day 1a chip leader Mehdi Chaoui has been ever-present at the top of the leaderboard and will return with 532,000, good for 133 big blinds.

Loitering just behind the leading group, accomplished pros Leonard Maue (432,000) and Bernhard Binder (411,000) also remain well in contention heading into Day 3.

Further down the leaderboard, there is no shortage of firepower. Poker heavyweights Ben Heath (293,000), Benny Glaser (266,000), Juha Helppi (222,000), Boris Kolev (211,000), Enrico Camosci (197,000) and Joao Vieira (123,000), will all be ready to battle once the cards are in the air.

Flying the flag for PokerStars Team Pro when play begins, Raul Mestre (868,000), David Lappin (99,000) and Maria Konnikova (77,000), also advanced to Day 3.

Kicking off at 12:00 p.m. local time, Day 3 will play out the remaining 62 minutes of Level 15 with blinds of 2,000/4,000 and a 4,000 big blind ante, before playing through four more 90-minute levels.

There will be a short break after each level, with no current plans for an extended break for dinner.

All surviving players will bag and advance to Day 4, one step closer to the title, the trophy, and the €825,000 first-place prize.

Rodrigo Selouan Soars to Chip Lead as EPT Monte-Carlo Main Event Bubble Bursts

Level 15 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Rodrigo Selouan
Rodrigo Selouan

The opening flights of the €5,300 Main Event at the PokerStars European Poker Tour in Monte Carlo were played out under gray skies and heavy rain, but as the stars returned for Day 2 inside Sporting Monte-Carlo, so too did the sun.

A total of 188 players returned for Day 2, joined by 51 late entrants to bring the starting field to 339.

Overall, the 1,011entries created a prize pool of €4,903,350, to be shared among the top 151 finishers. A minimum payout of €9,200 was guaranteed for each player who survived the bubble, while €825,000 awaits the winner, along with the coveted Golden Shard trophy.

Leading the way into Day 3, Rodrigo Selouan picked up where he left off in the opening flight. Entering the day as one of the biggest stacks in the room, the Brazilian applied pressure at every opportunity.

In the penultimate level, Selouan scooped two huge pots in quick succession, both with river overbets. The first went uncalled, but the following hand, Mihai Niste looked him up only to be shown bad news. That hand sent Niste to the rail, and Selouan to the top of the chip counts.

Second in chips, Team PokerStars Pro Raul Mestre bagged 868,000. A mainstay at the top of the leaderboard, he returns for Day 3 with 217 big blinds. More than 70 big blinds behind, Stanislav Anufriiev rounds out the overnight podium with 574,000.

Further down the chip counts, five previous EPT Main Event winners are still in the field. Thomas Eychenne (336,000), former EPT Monte-Carlo champion Derk van Luijk (334,000), Ognyan Dimov (286,000), Dimitar Danchev (74,000) and Hossein Ensan (63,000) will all be emptying chips onto the felt when Day 3 begins.

Representing the PokerStars Team Pro contingent, David Lappin (99,000) and Maria Konnikova (77,000) will join the aforementioned Mestre when play gets underway.

Aleksandr Shevliakov

Where plenty flourished, many faltered. By the time the first break rolled around, players such as Christopher Nguyen, Bryn Kenney, Boris Angelov, Espen Jorstad and Tom Vogelsang had already hit the rail.

As the bubble crept ever closer, former EPT Monte-Carlo champion Adrian Mateos and reigning champion Aleksandr Shevliakov also fell.

Morgan Aceto
Morgan Aceto

By the time the tournament reached the stone bubble, Morgan Aceto found himself with just a handful of chips. After posting his big blind and folding to a raise, he was then left with just a single 1,000 tournament chip.

Forced all in from the small blind, with the masses gathered around the table to watch, it was Aceto who had the misfortune of bursting the bubble. His jack-six was unable to crack pocket kings, and, as the rest of the field received confirmation of their minimum €9,200 payout, Aceto could only watch on as the survivors all bagged their chips to advance to Day 3.

Mestre's Massive Mountain of Chips Keeps Growing

Raul Mestre opened his button to 5,500. Ramon Lampert defended his big blind and check-called when Mestre continued for 4,000 on the 4K5 flop.

Lampert checked again on the 3 turn. Mestre sized up to 18,000, seeing his opponent slide in another call. The 8 river was then checked to showdown.

Lampert showed a busted flush draw with Q2, meaning Mestre's K2 for top pair was good enough to win the pot.

Big Stacks Battle on Table 17

Level 13 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante

Christophe Panetti opened to 5,000 in the hijack. Raul Mestre called on the button before Ramon Lampert made it 18,000 to go in the big blind. Panetti got out of the way, but Mestre quickly tossed in calling chips.

Mestre then called Lampert's bets of 16,000 on the 4Q8 flop and 47,000 on the 10 turn. Lampert slid in a third barrel worth 63,000 on the A river, this time getting rewarded with the pot as Mestre tapped the table and mucked his cards.

Previous Champions Eyeing More EPT Monte-Carlo Success as Main Event Heads Into Day 2

Aleksandr Shevliakov
Aleksandr Shevliakov

The two starting flights have been completed, meaning it is time for Day 2 of the 2026 PokerStars European Poker Tour Monte-Carlo €5,300 Main Event. Across Day 1a and Day b, 960 entries were registered, of which 288 players booked their tickets to the second day. However, late registration at Sporting Monte-Carlo will remain open until the start of play today. Anyone who has not spent their two allowed bullets is able to hop into the Main Event with a stack of 20 big blinds, allowing the current €4,656,000 prize pool to increase even further.

Defending champion Aleksandr Shevliakov will not have to worry about registering late, as he turned the starting stack of 30,000 into 104,000 on Day 1a, good for nearly 70 big blinds at the start of play today. Shevliakov is joined by 2024 EPT Monte-Carlo winner Derk van Luijk and 2015 champion Adrian Mateos, both of whom also battled their way through the first starting flight. Van Luijk amassed a stack of 141,000, while Mateos will sit down with 112,500 at the start of play today.

Derk van Luijk

The chip lead, meanwhile, is in the hands of Greek player Paraskevas Tsokaridis, who crushed the competition on Day 1b to end up with a massive stack of 384,000. Day 1a chipleader Mehdi Chaoui occupies the second spot on the leaderboard with 357,000 in chips, over 60 big blinds more than Stanislav Anufriiev, who sits in third with 265,000. Other familiar faces in the top ten include Samuel Ju, Vicente Delgado, and Natan Chauskin, who finished tenth in this event in 2024.
