Three-way to the 4♠A♠3♥ flop, Danut Chisu checked from the small blind to Robin Gerard in the cutoff. He bet 6,000, which Hannes Jeschka raised to 14,000 on the button.
Chisu cold-called, prompting Gerard to three-bet to 28,000. Jeschka let go of his cards after some debate, but Chisu wanted to see a turn and called.
Gerard moved all in when the 8♦ hit the turn, for 63,000. Chisu asked for a count, but ended up check-folding when he heard the correct amount.
Thibaut Fixari made it 5,000 to go in the cutoff. Tsugunari Toma sat in the small blind and moved all in, covering both Fixari and Ekrem Sanioglu in the big blind.
Sanioglu then called off his stack of 60,000, forcing Fixari out of the pot.
Ekrem Sanioglu: 5♠5♦
Tsugunari Toma: A♠7♠
Sanioglu's pocket pair remained ahead on the 9♦3♦K♣ flop and 2♣ turn, but Toma spiked an ace on the A♣ river to end his opponent's run in the EPT Main Event.
Diogo Coelho raised to 5,000 under the gun and was called by Angelina Rich in middle position and Erik Seidel in the big blind.
All three players checked the Q♣6♣A♥ flop. Coelho then bet 5,500 on the Q♥ turn and Rich called, but Seidel then raised to 13,500.
Coelho called, while Rich got out of the way. The river was the 5♠ and Seidel checked to Coelho, who moved all in. Seidel called for his last 22,000 with A♦7♠, but Coelho had Q♠J♥ for trips to win the pot and bust the Poker Hall of Famer.
At the 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris, a standing ovation took place for one of poker's legends as an emotional Barny Boatman captured a long-awaited EPT Main Event title inside Les Palais des Congres.
The veteran defeated 2013 WCOOP Main Event winner David Kaufmann in a swift heads-up encounter to take home the trophy along with the €1,287,800 top prize.
Kaufmann, who recently returned to the felt after an educational hiatus, collected €804,750 for his efforts, while the final podium finisher, Aleksejs Ponakovs, was awarded €574,850.
A fixture on the European Poker Tour since its inception, Boatman came close to Main Event glory once before, narrowly missing out on the victory in Sanremo in 2011. He'd long thought his chances of going the distance had passed him by, but as we know, anything can happen on the felt.
"If you don't get cards like I did today, it's very, very hard. I have won tournaments, obviously, but nothing this big and it feels unbelievable," the newly crowned champion told PokerNews.
David Docherty raised to 5,000 in early position and Bruno Fitoussi called in middle position before Cesar Garcia three-bet to 22,500 in the hijack. Only Docherty called.
The flop came J♣7♦8♦ and Docherty led out for 14,000. Garcia called, and the 4♥ fell on the turn.
Docherty then bet 21,000, and Garcia again called. The river was the 10♦ and Docherty slowly assembled a bet of 30,000 and put it in the middle. Garcia quickly folded this time.
"I've never been more annoyed by someone putting chips in the pot," tablemate Ian Bradley said after the hand.
Diogo Coelho flicked in a T-5,000 chip under the gun for a raise. Angelina Rich responded with a three-bet to 12,500 in middle position, after which the action folded back to Coelho.
Coelho elected to call to the 7♣8♣8♥ flop, which he checked over to Rich. Rich continued with a bet of 8,000, seeing her opponent quickly call.
The 2♣ turn saw Rich size up to 30,000. Coelho check-folded this time, surrendering the pot to Rich.
Reouven Attias raised to 6,000 in middle position before Kevin Rabichow three-bet to 15,000 on the button. Attias then moved all in for 36,500, and Rabichow called.
Reouven Attias: A♦A♥
Kevin Rabichow: A♠Q♥
Attias had found a pair of aces and was a big favorite to double up as the flop came J♠4♣5♠, but the K♠ turn gave Rabichow outs to a straight and flush. "What a card," tablemate Michael Perrone said, but Attias dodged the 9♦ river to secure the double up.
"Oh, come on," Rabichow said with a laugh as he handed over the pot.
"What were you worried about? I hate people who worry with aces," Perrone said to Attias after the hand.
