Morte

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Morten Mortensen (incidentally one of the coolest names in poker, it literally means Death, Son of Death), a former EPT Snowfest final tablist, is out after getting in with {A-}{J-} only to run into Daniel Dvoress' {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}, the board came {9-Hearts}{3-Spades}{K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades} and Dvoress jumped up to almost 200,000.

Tens for Kuiper

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

From early position, Ronnie Bardah raised to 3,300. Daniel Wilson called from the next seat, Mateusz Koczwara called on the button, and then Bart Kuiper reraised from the small blind. After Bardah folded, Wilson immediately asked how much the raise was for. He then called, and Koczwara called as well.

Despite some fun more exciting preflop action, Kuiper, Wilson, and Koczwara checked the flop, turn, and river on the {J-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop. Kuiper showed the {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, and both Wilson and Koczwara mucked their hands.

Brader's Break Through?

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Thomas Brader has played a few EPT Main Events in his life, but has never been able to cash in one so far. In fact, he now has the biggest stack he has ever owned in one with 185,000.

Brader told us he took a move from his buddies Freerk Post's play book, by just calling with {A-}{A-} before the flop. Brader flat called with that monster before the flop, and just called on the flop as well. By the time the turn was out on the board, Brader's opponent had a small enough stack behind to just pound it in. Brader called again, and it turned out he was up against top pair. The river blanked, and Brader bounced his stack up to 185,000.

Brader may have never cashed in a Main Event, he did cash twice in side events here in Barcelona. During the EPT Barcelona poker festival in 2012, Brader made a min cash in a €1,000 side event. At last years EPT Barcelona he did a little better; he finished third in a €2,000 Turbo Bounty side event for €19,600.

Kitty Can’t Hold

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Kitty Kuo
Kitty Kuo

Kitty Kuo bet 3,200 from the big blind on the turn of a board reading {9-Clubs}{q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and got a call. The river was the {5-Spades} and a further bet of 5,200 from Kuo again got called and her {q-Clubs}{7-Clubs} lost out to the {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}. Not a hugely significant pot in and of itself but we wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t have some bearing on what happened next.

The player on the button raised to 3,500 when it was folded to them and Kuo in the small blind made it 7,800. The big blind folded and when the button moved in for around 40,000 move Kuo wasted no time in making the call and tabling {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}. She had her opponent’s {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds} crushed.

The cards ran out {2-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{j-Spades}{5-Spades}. “Flush.” announced the dealer and Kuo calmly handed over the chips.

Wetemans Eliminated

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Jasper Wetemans has been eliminated from the tournament.

Wetemans had just under 20,000 left, and open jammed that stack from the hijack with {10-}{10-}. Unfortunately for the Dutchman, the small blind had queens, and wasn't willing to lay that hand down.

Wetemans received no help on flop, turn, or river, and made his exit.

Lappin vs. Seiver

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
David Lappin
David Lappin

We joined the action on the river with the board reading {9-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. David Lappin led out for 2,200 from the big blind and faced a raise from Seiver to 4,800. Lappin took a short time to think before he responded with a raise of his own to 10,600. Seiver raised him back and Lappin, obviously realising what was going on made the call.

Lappin showed {q-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and chopped it with Seiver’s {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.

Hellman Makes Demidov's Life Hell

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Jonathan Hellman has just eliminated Russian PokerStars Team Pro Ivan Demidov. In a small blind versus big blind situation, the Swede had {A-}{9-} up against {J-}{10-}. Victory for Hellman, showers for Demidov.
