Day 2 Sees the Field Cut to 292 with Ruzicka Leading

Vojtech Ruzicka

Day 2 of the €5,300 Main Event from the European Poker Tour Barcelona has come to a close, and a massive day it was. After a field of 1,496 entries was generated, over 900 players returned for Day 2. That allowed for a whopping €7,255,600 prize pool, of which the top 239 players would be paid out with the winner set to receive €1,261,000.

At the end of another six 75-minute levels of play, 292 players remained, which isn't too far away from a cash. Breaking the bubble will come on Day 3, and it'll be one of the more exciting days in the tournament. Just sliding into the money will earn each player €8,050.

Finishing atop the surviving players was Vojtech Ruzicka with 617,100 in chips. Ruzicka started the day with 155,300 in chips and steadily increased his stack. He picked up a nice pot towards the end of the night against Dominik Nitsche where he bet, bet, bet on the flop, turn, and river of a board reading {8-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Nitsche called all three streets, including calling for all of his chips on the river, with the {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}. Unfortunately for Nitsche, Ruzicka rivered a gut-shot straight with the {10-Spades}{7-Spades} to send him to the rail.

Other players who finished towards the top of the counts were Nima Ahrary (519,600), Martin Finger (502,000), Tobias Rohe (435,000), Marko Neumann (316,100), Max Pescatori (294,000), Fedor Holz (260,600), Kent Lundmark (237,700), and Scott Seiver (216,400).

On the flip side of the coin, plenty of players busted out on the day. Some of those to bust were Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden, Alex Kravchenko, Jake Cody, Matthias De Meulder, Daniel Negreanu, Ivan Demidov, Leo Fernandez, Liv Boeree, Leo Margets, Marcin Horecki, Theo Jorgensen, and Eugene Katchalov.

Day 3 will kick off at 12 p.m. local time on Sunday, so be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews for more coverage from Barcelona.

Dominik Nitsche Eliminated

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

As we neared the table in the far back left, we were just in time to see Dominik Nitsche call all in on the river.

The board read {8-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{9-Spades} and Nitsche called all in and immediately showed his {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}. His opponent was Vojtech Ruzicka and he tabled {10-Spades}{7-Spades}, soon enough to give Nitsche the bad news.

Nitsche wished the table good luck, and made his way to the exit. Nitsche told us on his way out that he had just called with his kings before the flop, and that he had done the same on the flop, turn and river. The trapping didn't work out this time, as his Czech opponent caught his river gut-shot.

Tedeschi Loses Some To Kipnis

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

From middle position, Paul Tedeschi opened with a raise to 5,100. Denis Kipnis reraised to 13,000 from the cutoff seat, and action folded back to Tedeschi. He called, and the flop came down {Q-Spades}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. Tedeschi checked, Kipnis bet 11,000, and Tedeschi called.

The turn was the {J-Spades}, and Tedeschi check-called a bet of 22,500 from Kipnis to see the {6-Spades} land on the river. Both players checked.

Tedeschi showed the {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, but that was no good against Kipnis' {J-Clubs}{7-Hearts}.

Finger Releases Trigger

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Martin Finger

On a flop of {10-Hearts}{k-Spades}{k-Hearts} Martin Finger bet 9,000 and got a call from Dimitrios Kalaroutis. Burn, turn and the dealer put out the {3-Diamonds}. Finger then gave it some thought cutting out some chips and deciding on another bet of 24,000. Kalaroutis made the call.

The river card was the {a-Diamonds} and it took a little while before Finger decided against emptying the clip and checking it. Kalaroutis duly checked behind and showed {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}. Finger wanted to muck but another player insisted he turn over his {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}.

Torres Dismissed

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Francisco 'Paco' Torres is out. The Spaniard was all in for around 40,000 preflop with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} but managed to miss on a {6-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{10-Spades} board against Grzegorz Derkowski's {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}.

Derkowski is up to a quarter of a million chips.
