Day 1b of the GUKPT Coventry Main Event attracted a total of 219 entries, with just 59 players advancing from a field of 219 to Day 2 here at the Grosvenor Casino at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

This brings the total number of players through to Day 2 to 85 with the Turbo Day 1c still to come.

Grosvenor Poker Team Pro Richard Trigg bagged a healthy stack of 173,900, good enough for third in chips behind anonymous player L M (219,600) and Rodrigo Hernandez (187,400).

Defending champion Steve Jelinek survived through to Day 2 with a stack of 63,500 while fellow WSOP bracelet winner Carl Shaw also made it through with 37,300. GUKPT London champion Timothy Chung (24,500) is also through, as well as Joe Hindry, Sinem Melin and Bhavin Khatri.

Late Double for Jackson

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Ashleigh Naisbitt opened to 2,000 and called the shove from Robert Jackson for his last 12,200.

Robert Jackson: {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Ashleigh Naisbitt: {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

The flop {2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs} gave Jackson an unlikely lead having flopped a pair of eights, but Naisbitt had flopped a flush draw. The turn {6-Diamonds} and river {7-Diamonds} changed nothing however, and Jackson doubled up.

Abhyankar Flops O'Shea Dead

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Jerome O'Shea shoved for 20,000 from under the gun. It folded to Nealkantha Abhyankar in the cutoff who reshoved for around 40,000. The button and blinds folded.

Jerome O'Shea: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Nealkantha Abhyankar: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

It was a flip for O'Shea to stay alive, but the {9-Spades}{4-Clubs}{7-Hearts} saw him drawing dead after Abhyankar flop a set. The turn and river {10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} sent O'Shea to the rail in the last level of the day.

Parkes Wins Pot Without Showdown

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

James Clarke raised to 2,200 on the button and Kevin Parkes defended his big blind.

Parkes check-called 2,500 on the {8-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop and the turn was the {q-Spades}

Parkes and Clarke checked and the river was the {a-Spades}. Parkes checked again and Clarke bet 3,700.

Parkes threw out chips to call and Clarke mucked his hand, awarding Parkes the pot.
