Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Matthew Davenport
Matthew Davenport

The first flight of the GUKPT Coventry Main Event is in the books with 26 players advancing from a field of exactly 100. Plenty of players took it upon themselves to jump straight in at the first opportunity, including Grosvenor Poker Team Pro Jamie Nixon.

Unfortunately for Nixon, he was eliminated before the end of play but will have ample opportunity to secure his spot in Day 2 with two more flights on Friday, March 4 here at the Grosvenor Casino Coventry.

The chip leader is Mitchell Hynam who bagged 169,700 ahead of anonymous player G D with 154,100. Matthew Davenport sits in third in chips and is the only other player above 150,000, after bagging 152,600. Other players who bagged above 100,000 chips include Lee French (141,000), Dawid Chmiel (120,500) and Leon Campbell (108,000).

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

With 25,000 chips in the middle on a {6-Spades}{2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} flop, Yiannis Liperis and another opponent both checked the {10-Spades} turn and the river was the {6-Hearts}

Liperis bet 15,000 and his opponent snap-called. Liperis showed {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} but his opponent held {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} and chipped up to around 130,000.

Level 9 : 400/800, 800 ante

Oliver Hutchins opened to 2,000 and was called in two spots by Renee Xie and Yucel Eminoglu.

The flop was {j-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{q-Clubs} and was checked through. The turn was the {6-Hearts} and Eminoglu bet 3,700. Hutchins called and Xie folded.

The river was the {q-Spades}. Eminoglu bet 7,500 and Hutchins folded. Eminoglu flashed the {2-Spades} and took down the pot.

Jones Denied Knockout as Taberham Hits Miracle Flop

Level 9 : 400/800, 800 ante

Donald Jones opened to 2,000 and Simon Taberham three-bet all in for 13,800. Jones called.

Simon Taberham: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Donald Jones: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}

Taberham was dominated, but the {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop saw him flop Broadway and move into the lead. Jones could still hit running cards, but the {8-Hearts}{k-Spades} board secured the double for Taberham.

Sarkeshik Takes On Hutchins

Level 9 : 400/800, 800 ante

Oliver Hutchins opened to 2,000 and was called by Ali Sarkeshik in the small blind.

"I check dark," said Sarkeshik, and Hutchins checked back the {10-Spades}{6-Hearts}{j-Hearts} flop.

The turn was the {8-Clubs} and Sarkeshik bet 3,000. Hutchins called.

The river was the {q-Clubs} and Sarkeshik checked. Hutchins bet 3,500 and Sarkeshik snap-called.

Hutchins showed {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} for a rivered top pair, but Sarkeshik had turned a set with {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and scooped the pot.
