LAPT Playa Conchal Main Event

Day 1 Completed

Day 1 Is a Wrap

The final level of the day is history and the tournament clock suggests that 127 players have made it to Day 2.

Team PokerStars PRO was heavily represented by the likes of Humberto Brenes, JC Alvarado, Angel Guillen, Alexandre Gomes, Andre Akkari, and Victor Ramdin amongst others. All but one of the Team PokerStars PROS made it to the bag-and-tag portion of the day. Sadly, it was Team Argentina Pro Veronica Dabul who fell short of reaching Day 2.

Some of the other big names in the field were David Plastik, Jon Friedberg, Paul "X-22" Magriel, and Jean-Robert Bellande, all of whom failed to reach the bag and tag portion of the day.

Rob Woodcock looks to be at the top of the leaderboard at the end of Day 1. He may not be a household name in the poker world yet, but it's important to note that Woodcock was the chip leader coming out of Day 1 at this event last year. From there, he eventually went on to finish in ninth place. Also around the top of the pack are big stacks Daniel Mar and Tyler Netter.

Play will resume tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. local time and we hope to see you right back here for all the live coverage!

A Stinky River

A crowd gathered around the table as Daniel Mar had an opponent all in for his tournament life with the board showing {8-?}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs}.

Mar held a pocket pair of sixes and his opponent, {A-?}{10-?}.

The river blanked ({K-?}), and the two shook hands before the dealer pushed the pot in Mar's direction.

After the crowd dispersed, several players at the table starting waving hands in front of their noses, suggesting that someone had just crop-dusted the table.

"What a stinky river card," one player joked.

After the hand, Mar stacked up just over 130,000 in chips.

Alvarado's Check-raise Fails

Action folded all the way around to JC Alvarado in the small blind. He raised to 2,400 and the big blind called. The flop came down {K-Spades} {5-Clubs} {2-Clubs} and Alvarado checked. The big blind fired 2,500 and Alvrado called.

The turn brought the {Q-Diamonds} and Alvarado check-called another bet of 2,500. The river was the {3-Diamonds} and Alvrado checked again. This time it wasn't to check-call, but instead to check-raise. After his opponent bet 3,000, Alvarado raised to 14,000. The player made the call and waited for Alvrado to turn up {A-Hearts} {2-Spades} for just a pair of twos. The big blind then tabled {K-Clubs} {J-Hearts} to win the pot.

Alvarado slipped to 26,400 chips.

Fitzgerald Makes a Call with Queen High

Don't mess with Assasinato
Don't mess with Assasinato
Alex "Assasinato" Fitzgerald raised to action up preflop and was called in four spots. The flop came down {9-Spades} {9-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} and Fitzgerald fired a continuation bet. He was called by only one player who he's been battling with all day.

The turn brought the {10-Hearts} and with over 15,000 in the middle, Fitzgerald checked. His opponent checked behind.

The river was the {10-Clubs} and Fitzgerald checked again. His opponent fired 5,600. The bet prompted Fitzgerald to sit upright in his chair and remove his headphones. He studied for about a minute and then tossed in the call.

His opponent tabled a counterfeited hand, showing the {5-Diamonds} {5-Spades}. Fitzgerald tabled {Q-Clubs} {6-Diamonds}, playing his queen-high kicker along with the two pair on board. HIs hand was good and he raked in the pot. He's now up to 43,000 chips.
