Salas Stacking

Damian Salas, one of Argentina's best-known poker pros, is defending his home turf fiercely so far this afternoon. He's currently close to the top of the chip counts with around 53,000. In one hand we caught, a player in late position opened, and Salas three-bet. His opponent snap-mucked with a sigh.

Vance Hanging Around

Tim Vance
Tim Vance

Tim Vance took a small hit after running his pocket kings into aces but has slowly been rebuilding his stack. Recently he was in early position and raised to 800. The big blind called and the two saw a flop of {K-Clubs}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts}.

Both players checked as the {6-Clubs} appeared on the turn. Once again the big blind checked, but this time Vance bet 1,200, which was enough to take down the small pot. Vance is sitting with around 38,000.

Death and Taxes

They say there are only two sure things in life: death and taxes. The latter is sure true here in Argentina. The hottest topic of debate throughout the day has centered around the taxed prize money. From what we gather, any player not residing in Argentina must pay a 31.5% tax on their winnings, which doesn't include any tax they may have to pay in their home country. This is news to most of the players, who either learned about the tax during the party last night or are just discovering thanks to table conversation.

"I'm losing money if I cash," one player commented when the issue was brought up at her table. Clearly it is a touchy subject with many of the players. Some have said they would not have bought in if they had known about the tax. Others are under the impression that they won't have to pay the tax if they accept their prize money online.

This was a recent development and once we receive the official statement about the issue, we'll provide it for you.

Check out these photos of the PokerStars Team Pros in the field today. Victor Ramdin and Chris Moneymaker were also here, but they didn't stick around very long.

Salles on Life Support

Gualter Salles

Three player limped to a flop of {5-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{9-Spades}. Gualter Salles was first to act from the small blind and checked. The big blind bet 400 and after the other limper got out of the way, Salles made the call.

Both players checked the {8-Spades} on the turn and the {Q-Clubs} hit the river. Salles cut out some black chips and threw in a bet worth 700, which was enough to get his opponent to fold. Salles took down the small pot but is still on life support with 5,200.

Big Pot for Barbero

There was only 3,500 in the pot on and a board reading {J-Hearts}{8-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} when action picked up between Jose Ignacio Barbero, who was on the button, and his opponent in the big blind.

The big blind had bet, Barbero raised to 6,600, and his opponent reraised to 15,400. Barbero was clearly agonized and even said his intuition was to just call the original bet. "Show me king-jack," Barbero said as he tossed in the chips to make the call. His opponent turned over {Q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for a complete bluff and Barbero's {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} was enough to take down the large pot.

Barbero is in great shape with around 41,000.
