We heard a voice at the other end of the room and it got louder as its source neared out desk. We didn't even have to look up to know it was the boisterous Team PokerStars Pro (Costa Rica) Humberto Brenes, who had recently been eliminated. He quickly explained that his opponent had rivered a straight to send him to the rail, and that was the end of that.
Earlier in the day, we asked Brenes what he liked about this stop. He told us, through the use of a Spanish interpreter: "“The vineyards are very nice, and the people, not only the Chilean people, but the Chilean girls!”
The ever-jovial Costa Rican exited the tournament floor with grace, no doubt going to find something else to do in Vina del Mar to occupy his time
The action has picked up here post dinner, which means tables are being broke at a rapid pace and players relocated to new seats. During the shuffle, we noticed a couple of players were absent from the tournament; as such, we can confirm that both Miguel Solano and Samar Hodali have been eliminated from the tournament.
On the other hand, we discovered Luis Montano over on Table 8. He is sitting with a big pair of aviator sunglasses, which are complimented by a big stack of chips . . . 64,000 to be exact!
Alex Brenes opened to 2,000 from the cutoff and was called by the player in the big blind.
When the hit the board, the big blind led out 5,500. Brenes was quick to push his chips into the middle, but his opponent did the same. Not all that eager to show, Brenes tabled and was miles behind the of his opponent.
The turn and river locked up the pot for his opponent, leaving Brenes with just less than the starting stack.
Right after dinner, during the midst of our internet issues, Nacho Barbero passed by our desk and informed us that he had been eliminated from the tournament. Unfortunately we don't have the details, but we can confirm the Argentinian pro is out of the LAPT Chile Main Event.
Likewise, it appears Ariel Celestino has busted as he failed to turn up on repeated scans of the room.
Way back in Season II, the LAPT their first stop in Chile right here at the Enjoy Vina del Mar Casino & Resort. The $3,500 buy-in even took place from January 20-22, 2009 and drew 216 entrants, creating a prize pool of $523,800. After three days of play, Argentinean Fabian Ortiz emerged victorious to claim the $141,426 first-place prize. Interestingly, Hernan Villa, who finished fifth, was the only Chilean to make the final table.
