Day 2 Completed
The Latin American Poker Tour Chile, the first stop of the fifth season, continued on Friday at the Enjoy Casino & Resort in Vina del Mar as the surviving 188 players from Days 1a and 1b combined for Day 2 action. After eight levels of play, that field was whittled down to just 32 players, with Daniela Horno leading the way.
With a prize pool of $651,840 at stake, including a $129,470 first-place prize, the players were intent on making the money, meaning they needed to finish in the top 104. Unfortunately for Carlos Perez, Juan Carlos, Odilon Machuca and Leandro Csome, they were all sent to the rail empty handed.
The LAPT Season 4 Player of the Year, Pablo Gonzalez, also failed to reach the money. His elimination came when he moved all in for 25,400 from the cutoff after the player in the hijack had raised to 4,800. The button got out of the way, while the small blind made the call. After the hijack folded, Gonzalez tabled but was behind the of the small blind.
Gonzalez was in a bad spot, though the appeared in the window; unfortunately for him, it was followed by the and . It was a set-over-set flop, meaning Gonzalez needed the last five in the deck to stay alive. The turn was not it, and neither was the . Gonzalez was eliminated from the Main Event without a cash.
A few players who did cash were Juan Amigo (90th-$1,550), Guillermo Pardo (64th-$2,030), Claudio Lopez (57th-$2,030) and Thiago “XTheDecanoX” Nishijima (55th-$2,180), just to name a few.
Horno finished sixth in the LAPT Chile Main Event last year, and is primed to make a deep run as both the last woman standing and Day 2 chip leader with 767,000.
The 32 players will return on Saturday at 1200 CLST (0800 PDT) for Day 3, where they will play down to a final table. As always, you can follow the action right here on PokerNews.

In what would be the last hand of the night, action folded to Daniela Horno on the button and she opened for 25,000. Ryan O'Donnell was in the small blind and moved all in for around 160,000, and Horno made the call.

O'Donnell was in big trouble and in desperate need of some help, which he found on the flop. Suddenly Horno needed a king to eliminated her opponent, and while she didn't catch it on the turn, she did on the river when the spiked. The railbirds reacted sharply as O'Donnell simply shook his head in disbelief. He was eliminated in 33rd place for $2,610.
Now that we're down to 32 players, action has been stopped. The players will bag and tag, meaning we'll have a full round of counts and a recap shortly.

It just struck us that Daniela Horno is the last woman standing in the tournament. Last year, she was also the last woman standing and ultimately finished in sixth place. No doubt she's looking to prove upon that this year, and she is in prime position to do it with a very healthy stack.
Player | Chips | Progress |
---|---|---|
Daniela Horno | 600,000 | 280,000 |
We arrived at the table just in time to see the dealer counting down two stacks. From what we could piece together, Julio Kim got all in preflop holding and was ahead of his opponent's . Unfortunately for Kim, the flop came down . The turn left him drawing dead, and after the was put out on the river for good measure, it was discovered Kim had the shorter stack. He was eliminated from the tournament.

After a flurry of bustouts following the dinner break, play has slowed down immensely as the clock has read 36 players for about 20 minutes now.
The plan for Day 2 is to play nine levels or down to 32 players. We're just five players away from the latter, but this is a poker tournament, so who can be sure which will come first?
Level: 18
Blinds: 4,000/8,000
