John Duthie—best known as the founder of the European Poker Tour (EPT)—isn’t just a pioneer behind the scenes; he’s still battling it out on the felt.
Now playing Day 1c of the Main Event, Duthie just tangled with Nichan Khorchidian in a hand that reached showdown. Duthie opened to 40,000 from early position and Khorchidian defended his big blind.
The 7♦9♥3♥K♥2♥ board was checked all the way to the river, where Khorchidian flicked in a 20,000 chip bet. Duthie called but mucked when Khorchidian revealed K♣J♠ for top pair.
It’s been 25 years since Duthie won the Poker Million for $1.4 million. Now, he’s adding another chapter—this time, right here in Cyprus.
Last May, Azamat Lamkov became the newest $5,300 Mediterranean Poker Party Main Event champion as he defeated a massive field of 1,260 entries at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel.
Fifth in chips at the beginning of the final table, Lamkov made his way to first place, surpassing players like Mihai Niste (6th, $170,000) and Leon Sturm (3rd, $440,000). Ultimately, Lamkov claimed victory over Kirill Shcherbakov, who finished in second for $680,000. Thanks to this win, Lamkov is not only the proud owner of a trophy, but he's also a millionaire with the $1,000,000 first-place prize.

The player under the gun had opened and received a few callers when Samuel Dray squeezed in a three-bet on the button.
Under the gun then moved all in, covering all other players, and Dray snap-called once the action had folded back to him.
Samuel Dray: A♠K♠
Under the gun: A♣2♣
The under-the-gun player took the lead on the 6♠2♥4♠ flop, and the Q♣ turn did not bring Dray an out. The K♦ river did, however, making Dray top pair to double up and take the huge pot, much to his relief.
A player in middle position opened to 30,000, which Yilu Yuan three-bet to 85,000 in the hijack. Paul Grummitt then clicked it to 135,000 in the cutoff, after which the action folded back to Yuan.
He jammed all in for 450,000 and was snapped off by Grummitt.
Yilu Yuan: K♥K♣
Paul Grummitt: A♠A♦
The 2♣3♠3♦6♦J♥ board brought no surprises, sending Yuan to the rail with his kings.
