Moneymaker's Road to PSPC 2020 at the Seminole Hard Rock in South Florida saw two starting flights play out simultaneously between the Hard Rock Hollywood and Seminole Casino Coconut Creek properties. The latter, which was live reported here in the live blog, attracted 42 runners, and with 15:15 remaining in Level 14 (1,500/3,000/3,000), action halted with five players remaining.
Those five players, who will all be in the money when they return for Sunday's Day 2 at the Hard Rock Hollywood, were led by none other than 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Chris Moneymaker, who bagged a big stack of 284,000.
"It feels pretty good. I didn't have to rebuy," Moneymaker said. "I got short during the rebuy period but got a good run late. Once we got down to one table I was able to build pretty well. It was a smaller field but a lot of fun. Overall it was a pretty smooth day."
Others advancing were Sheldon Gross (222,500), Mark Cannon (174,500), Ben Robinson (135,000), and Dan Wayson (24,000).
Of course, not everyone was so lucky. Among those to fire and fall in the flight were Jorge Aristizabal, David Feigenbaum, Harry Silver, Tom Gity, and Michael Goldfarb.
Those players will have the opportunity to try again on Saturday if they so choose as Flight B will get underway at 10 a.m. local time at both properties.
Speaking of which, the Hard Rock Hollywood Day 1a flight is still in action. PokerNews will bring you end-of-day chip counts from that tournament once it wraps.

In Level 14 (1,500/3,000/3,000), Sheldon Gross limped under the gun and Chris Moneymaker raised to 12,000 from the button. Gilles Dalco came along from the small blind, Gross put in the additional 9,000, and the trio watched the flop come down .
Dalco was first to act and moved all in for 48,000. Gross called, Moneymaker folded, and Dalco discovered the bad news.
Gilles Dalco:
Sheldon Gross:
Gross had flopped the flush and Dalco was left drawing dead after the appeared on the turn. The meaningless was run out on the river and Gross was pushed the pot.

David Feigenbaum:
Jorge Aristizabal:
Aristizabal had flopped top two pair while Feigenbaum went with his heart flush draw. That draw was rendered moot when the spiked on the turn to give Aristizabal a full house.

In Level 12 (1,000/2,000/2,000), Chris Moneymaker opened for 4,500 under the gun and Jonathan Dobson responded by three-betting all in for 16,000 from the button. Ben Robinson, who was in the big blind, then moved all in over the top and Moneymaker got out of the way.
Ben Robinson:
Jonathan Dobson:
Dobson's best chance at staying alive was to catch an ace, but he was left wanting as the board ran out an ace-less .

In Level 11 (800/1,600/1,600), Chris Moneymaker raised to 4,000 from early position and Dan Wayson defended his big blind to see a flop.
Wayson check-called a bet of 5,000 and then check-called one of 12,000 on the turn.
When the completed the board on the river, Wayson checked for the third time and Moneymaker thought long and hard before checking behind and tabling his . His missed flush draw that turned into a rivered pair of sevens was good enough as Wayson sent his hand to the muck.
