Favaloro Keeps Scooping Pots

On a flop of {J-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {2-Diamonds}, "Hollywood" Dave Stann checked over to the big stack Jon Favaloro. Favaloro bet out 2,150 and Stann made the call slowly.

After the turn brought the {2-Clubs}, Stann checked again. Favaloro stayed on the gas with a bet of 3,100 and Stann came along for the ride.

The river was the {3-Spades} and Stann checked again. Favaloro fired 4,100 this time and Stann quickly mucked {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} face up.

Cutting Through Honeybone with a Sharp Knife

Larry Sharp
Larry Sharp
From the hijack seat, Larry Sharp raised to 475. James Honeybone made the call from the cutoff and the two players took a flop heads up. The first three community cards were {9-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}. Sharp fired 525 and Honeybone called.

The turn brought the {6-Diamonds} and Sharp continued with his aggression and a bet of 1,450. Honeybone asked Sharp how much he had and then made a raise to 4,100. Sharp asked the dealer to pull in the bets and then tanked for some time. Eventually, he put in a reraise to 8,100. Honeybone immediately shoved his stack into the middle and Sharp quickly called.

Sharp tabled {10-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} for a diamond flush after Honeybone turned over {5-Diamonds} {5-Clubs}. The river brought the {3-Spades} allowing Sharp to double through Honeybone and move to 43,000. Honeybone dropped to 5,150 chips.

Honeybone Goes No Further

In a battle of the blinds, two players saw a flop come out {8-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {9-Spades}. Larry Sharp checked from the small blind, and James Honeybone stuck out a bet of 1,000 from the big. Sharp slipped in a check-raise to 2,250, and Honeybone came along with the call.

The turn came the {5-Clubs}, and Sharp fired out 3,100 chips. Honeybone would go deep into the tank before reluctantly folding his cards with a big sigh. He can afford to be a bit patient at this point with his stack of about 29,000.

King Phil Arrives

Phil Hellmuth may have been a little extra tired from MC'ing the opening party last night here in Aruba and opted to get some extra rest. Or maybe he was just busy enjoying the fabulous weather outside. Either way, we all know Hellmuth likes to arrive late to tournaments and this one is no different.

Hellmuth's here now and seated over at Table 7 in Seat 4. His starting stack has been blinded down to 14,075, but according to him he's still got plenty to work with.

Smith and Bell Wandering Around

Gavin Smith was heard rather than seen in the poker room before we actually located him. Smith came parading in with Chris Bell yelling, "Savage! Savage!" to get the attention of Matt Savage. Smith and Bell just got into Aruba and mentioned they'll be playing tomorrow. For now, they're both browsing the room and chatting with some of their friends that are playing today.

Morrison Dashed to Pieces

Chris "DashAlert" Morrison
Chris "DashAlert" Morrison
Chris "DashAlert" Morrison failed to get anything going today, never once working himself above the starting stack of 15,000 as far as we could tell. His pocket kings lost to ace-seven early in the day, and his pocket nines lost a race against ten-jack a few minutes ago.

Down to his last couple thousand chips, DashAlert committed his tournament life to a flop that gave him the nut flush draw. A brick apiece on the turn and river spelled the end of his tournament, and Morrison meandered to the far side of the room to put his name on the list for a sit-n-go.

Too Late Now

With two full levels of play complete, registration is now closed. After tallying the numbers, it appears that 188 players passed up the beach to come out and play today. When that second break hit a few minutes ago, 17 of them had already been shown the way to the exit door. After another few post-break eliminations, we're left with 166 players in the room right now.

The tournament staff tells us they expect a full 300 runners tomorrow to draw us close to the half-thousand mark for total entrants.

Favaloro the Chip Leader

Jon Favaloro
Jon Favaloro
A player opened with a raise to 500 on the first hand back from break before chip leader Jon Favaloro reraised to 1,575. Action folded back over to the original raiser and he called.

The flop came down {Q-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} and both players checked. The turn brought the {7-Diamonds} and the first player checked. Favaloro fired 1,500 and his opponent called.

The river brought the {5-Diamonds} and action checked to Favaloro again. He fired 3,025 and his opponent called again. Favaloro tabled {A-Spades} {A-Clubs} and his opponent mucked.

Favaloro has been on quite a run here on the first day of action and has built his starting stack of 15,000 chips up to 65,000. He is the clear chip leader in the room.
