Berman Cracks Matakis' Kings

Level 6 : 300/500, 500 ante
Brad Berman
Brad Berman

Ian Matakis was under the gun and raised to 1,200. He was called by the cutoff as well as Scotter Clark, who was on the button. Brad Berman then three-bet all in for 15,500 from the small blind. When action was back on Matakis, he announced he was all in and both the cutoff and Clark got out the way.

Brad Berman: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Ian Matakis: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}

Upon seeing Matakis' hand, Berman remarked that he did not like his chances as he tabled his own. He liked his chances much better as the flop came {4-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}, giving him nine newly-found outs. One of those nine came on the turn {5-Diamonds} to score him the flush and the double as the river fell {9-Clubs} to finish the runout.

Matakis confirmed the amount and sent the chips to the dealer to pay off Berman, bringing him back to under starting stack after appearing to have chipped up a bit in the recent past.

Hanner Gets Overpowered

Level 6 : 300/500, 500 ante

There was around 4,000 in the middle on a flop of {q-Clubs}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and Jon Hanner check-raised all in from under the gun over a bet of 3,000 by Thomas Powers, who was on the button. Powers called.

Jon Hanner: {a-}{j-}
Thomas Powers: {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Hanner had just four immediate outs to Broadway in addition to possible running cards as his only chances to best Powers' top two pair. The turn and river came clean and he congratulated Powers on a nice hand before getting up and exiting the tournament area.

McNee Wins a Race

Level 6 : 300/500, 500 ante
John McNee
John McNee

John McNee saw action folded to him in the cutoff and he ripped in his last 5,400. There was a dead button so the small blind was next to act and folded. The big blind then announced a call.

John McNee: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Big Blind: {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

"Ooh, it's a race!!!" said McNee, excited for the runout. He had reason to stay that way as the board came clean, falling {6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} to score him the double.

"3 Putts" Makes Five Clubs

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Nghia Le
Nghia Le

A player made it 1,000 to go from uner the gun and defending champion Nghia Le, known locally as "3 Putts" went all in over the top for 7,500 from middle position. Action folded around to the small blind, who asked for a count before announcing a call.

Action was then on Eric Eelkema, who was in the big blind and announced he was all in as well. The original opener folded and the small blind verbalized a call for a three-way all-in preflop situation.

Nghia Le: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Eric Eelkema: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}
Small Blind: {k-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

The small blind covered both players but was also the furthest behind in the hand. Meanwhile, "3 Putts" found his suited big slick also firmly behind Eelkema's pair of aces. The flop came {9-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, giving "3 Putts" nine clubs plus the case king in the deck as outs for the triple. The turn {7-Spades} was clean, leaving Eelkema out in front but the river {5-Clubs} that fell behind it gave "3 Putts" the nuts, earning him the triple along the way while Eelkema's aces were second-best and still good for the side pot.

Bohn Coolered for Stacks

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Blake Bohn
Blake Bohn

Andrew Johnson was under the gun and opened the action with a raise to 1,000. He received a call from the player on his left in early position before action folded around to Blake Bohn, who three-bet to 3,200 from the cutoff. Action made its way back to Johnson and he four-bet to 10,000. The early-position player folded to put action back on Bohn, who announced he was all in. Johnson quickly called, tabling his hand immediately afterwards. Bohn saw the news and reluctantly turned his over for the runout as well.

Blake Bohn: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Andrew Johnson: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}

Bohn was unable to improve as the runout came {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, leaving his kings up to be second best via an unavoidable cooler that sent him back to the cashier to fire another bullet. He has since taken another seat and has been given more chips with which to play, having wasted no time in doing so.

Eelkema Finds a Lucky River To Double

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante

A player in early position opened to 1,500 and was called by the hijack to put action onto Eric Eelkema, who was in the cutoff. Eelkema went all in for 11,200 and the original opener called, prompting a quick fold from the player trapped in between.

Eric Eelkema: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Early Position: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}

The flop came {j-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}.

"See, you're running good and you don't even know it," said a player at the table to Eelkema. The turn dropped {q-Diamonds} immediately afterwards, giving his opponent a pair of queens and putting him at risk of being eliminated.

"It's temporary," the player reassured. He was correct as the river fell {10-Hearts} to improve Eelkema to a set of tens and secure the double in the process.
