Viacheslav Takes A Big Bite Out Of Jaffee

We just saw a big hand develop that left Jared Jaffee looking dejected.

We caught the action with around 16,000 in the pot and a board reading {9-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. It appeared Igin Viacheslav checked to Jaffee, who bet 6,000. Viacheslav then check-raised to 15,000 and Jaffee shot back in his chair. He seemed perplexed, but eventually made the call. Viacheslav tabled {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} for a full house, and Jaffe simply mucked his hand.

With that, Jaffee was left with just 7,200 while Viacheslav chipped up to 63,000.

O'Brien O'ut

We came upon the table to see the board reading {3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. A short-stacked Dan O'Brien bet 1,300 and Dmitry Krasnoperov called. The two saw the {k-Diamonds} hit the river and O'Brien pondered for a few seconds before finally dropping the rest of his chips in the middle.

O'Brien was all in for about 3,200 more and Krasnoperov snapped him off. O'Brien showed {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} but was ultimately behind Krasnoperov's full house with {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}.

Crain Spotted Fondling Two Ladies

There aren't as many characters in poker today as there was eight years ago, but Eric Crain is certainly one of them. The jovial pro can often be found chatting up his opponents while giving a crazy amount on action. Needless to say, he's entertaining.

We recently found Crain tucked away in the back of the room, and true to form, he was in action right away. In the hand, the Czech Republic's Ondrej Kopecky opened for 300 from the cutoff only to have Crain three-bet to 800 from the small blind. Brazil's Jose Roberto Farah then flatted from the big, Kopecky folded, and it was heads-up action to the {5-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop.

Crain wasted little time in firing out 1,100, and Kopecky quickly got out of the way. Crain, who is prone to bluff, then showed he had the goods with {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}.

Mercier Wins One and Loses One

The player under the gun raised to 400, Taylor Paur called from the hijack seat, and Matias Gabrenja called from the cutoff seat. Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier called out of the big blind to complete the preflop action, and the dealer ran out the {9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop.

On the flop, Mercier led for 725. The original preflop raiser and Paur both folded, but Gabrenja made the call to see the {K-Diamonds} added on the turn. Mercier bet 2,900, and Gabrenja folded.

Shortly thereafter, Mercier was involved in a five-way pot on the {J-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop. The first two players checked, one of which was Paur, then Mercier bet 1,025. The two players behind Mercier called, before the first player and Paur folded. That left three-handed action to fourth street.

On the turn, Mercier fired 2,800 after the {4-Diamonds} landed. The next player folded, but the last player made the call.

The {K-Hearts} completed the board on the river, and Mercier checked. His opponent fired 7,000, which prompted some interesting facial expressions from Mercier. Eventually, the Team Pro folded his hand and slipped back to 25,000 in chips.

Crowe Fills Up Against Dibella

Owen Crowe opened with a raise under the gun and found calls from 2012 PCA Main Event Champion John Dibella in the hijack, Fabian Quoss in the cutoff, and Jon Plens in the big blind.

The flop came down {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Plens checked to Crowe who bet 650. Dibella popped it to 2,100, forcing folds from Quoss and Plens. Crowe called to see the {9-Clubs} turn and checked. Dibella bet 3,600, but was faced with a raise to 8,600 from Crowe. Dibella called , landing the {Q-Spades} on the river. Crowe bet 12,200 and after a few moments, Dibella called.

Crowe tabled {4-Hearts}{4-Spades} for a full house, besting Dibella's {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs} to win the pot.

"Knew you had it, but still couldn't fold," said Dibella, as he showed his cards and mucked.

A Rousing Game of Lodden Thinks

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

During $100,000 Super High Roller earlier in the series, our Live Reporting Team came across Antonio Esfandiari and Phil Ivey engaged in a game of "Johnny Lodden Thinks" where Team PokerStars Pro Isaac Haxton was the thinker.

Today, Esfandiari and Ivey are seated at adjacent tables with Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier at Ivey's table and Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler at Esfandiari's. With the two in such close proximity, it seems that the game goes on. According to Kessler's Twitter, the two were playing for $10,000 a point. The following question was proposed to Grospellier, the thinker:

"What do you think Allen Kessler's lifetime slot winnings are?"

For those of you who don't know, Kessler considers himself a professional slot player and has won several jackpots in his life.

Grospellier wrote down his answer and passed it to Kessler. The bidding then began.

"Five-thousand," remarked Antonio.

"Ten," shot back Ivey.

"Twenty," said Esfandiari.

The action went back and forth increasing by increments of $10,000. All the while, between bids, one of the most illustrious $10,000 buy-in poker tournaments of the year was also happening. During the bidding we saw a hand between none other than Esfandiari and Kessler where the two took a flop of {5-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{K-Spades}. Kessler check-called 250 to see the {2-Hearts} hit the turn. He check-called once again, this time for an amount of 600. The {j-Diamonds} hit the river and Esfandiari bet 1,700.

"Should have check-raised the turn," lamented Kessler as he threw away his cards, awarding Esfandiari the pot.

"Alright," Esfandiari shouted across the room to Ivey. "Two-hundred thousand. And that's a crying two-hundred. I'm not happy about it."

"Two-ten," stoically replied Ivey.

The bidding continued to increase by 10k increments until:

"Okay," said Esfandiari. "Two ninety-five. And I'm SOBBING."

"Crying 210 all of the way up to 295?" replied Ivey.

"Funny how that works, huh?"

The bidding didn't stop there. It continued to grow up as Esfandiari announced "Three seventy-five".

"Aye, aye, aye" lamented Ivey as he leaned back in his chair.

"Buy?" asked Esfandiari.

"Ah! You thought I said buy! You see, that's a tell right there," replied Ivey.

The bidding finally ended when Ivey bid $415,000 and Esfandiari bought. Kessler revealed that ElkY wrote "$500,000" and the point went to Ivey. Esfandiari then announced that they were 1-1 on the day.

As this hilarious action continues between the two poker superstars we'll be sure to keep you posted.

A player opened to 300 in middle position, Chris Oliver, who finished runner-up in the 2011 PCA Main Event, called on the button, and the flop fell {5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. Both players checked.

The turn was the {j-Diamonds}, the player led for 600, and Oliver called.

The {j-Hearts} completed the board, the player led for 1,100, and Oliver tanked for a bit before splashing 3,600 forward. The player quickly folded, and Oliver raked in the pot.
