Plesuv Doubles Through Melogno

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

With some 40,000 in the middle and the completed board showing {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, Pavel Plesuv was put to the test by Pablo Melogno and had just 13,600 behind when facing the jam. Plesuv reluctantly called and Melogno immediately tapped the table, revealing {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a bluff while Plesuv scored the double with {J-Hearts}{J-Spades} to move back above the starting stack.

Sylvia Doubles Through Hansen

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Three players were still in the hand on a board reading {j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}. The big blind checked and Gus Hansen bet 7,500 from middle position into a pot of around 11,000.

Jesse Sylvia raised to 18,500 on Hansen's left and the big blind was left shaking his head as his cards headed for the muck. Hansen went into the tank for a couple of minutes before announcing all in and Sylvia quickly called off another 30,800.

Jesse Sylvia: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}
Gus Hansen: {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

Sylvia just needed to dodge another ace to score a double up and the {9-Clubs} on the river proved to be good enough. Hansen sent his chips to the left and fell back below the 100,000 mark.

Gierse Finds a Dub

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Marius Gierse shoved all in from middle position for 41,700 facing a bet of what looked like 16,000 from a player on the button, who put in a call after confirming the count.

Marius Gierse: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

The board ran out {4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}, so Gierse faded a turned flush draw to double.

Paredes Busts Duczak

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

"You just missed a big one," Aaron Duczak said with a dry smile on the face and on his way out of the tournament area.

"I lost aces versus kings against David Paredes, king on the river," Duczak continued and Paredes confirmed what had happened.

Paredes said he had folded kings preflop to Duczak earlier on and now "wasn't good enough" to fold them.

That being said, Paredes moved up to more than three times the starting stack, joining the big stacks in the final level of the night.

Good Enough for Katz

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

The action folded to Cary Katz in the small blind and he just limped in. The big blind raised it up to 4,000 and Katz countered with a re-raise to 12,000.

His opponent thought for a minute and then stuck in a four-bet to 27,500. Now it was Katz's turn to do some thinking as he counted out the chips to call before sizing up the rest of his stack. Katz eventually decided to go with it as he pushed all in for around 62,000 which forced his opponent to quickly fold.

Nurzynski Takes From Wilkerson

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Joining the action on the {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop, Dylan Wilkerson and Piotr Nurzynski invested 2,200 to see the {5-Diamonds} turn. Wilkerson bet 3,200 and picked up a call.

After the {10-Diamonds} river, Wilkerson bet 8,100 and Nurzynski just called to get shown the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} by Wilkerson. Nurzynski had that beat with {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and raked in the pot. Further notables of the same table and their respective chip counts can be found below.

Watson Sends Holloway Packing

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Chad Halloway
Chad Halloway

Mike Watson opened early and quickly called a shove from Chad Holloway, who had around 20,000 on the button.

"Uh-oh," Holloway said.

He was indeed in bad shape with {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades} against {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}. The {q-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Spades} brought a little bit of hope for Holloway but the {8-Clubs} turn and {9-Spades} river just gave him an inferior flush.

Taylor Survives

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Scott Stewart opened for 1,800 in one of the last hands in Level 7, Farid Jattin made it 5,800 in the next seat over in the hijack, and then Esther Taylor crammed from the cutoff for 12,700. Stewart folded and Jattin called.

Taylor turned over {a-Clubs}{a-Spades} and Jattin faked like he was mucking then showed {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

"It was a pleasure playing with you," he joked.

The reverse jinx didn't work as the board ran out {6-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{9-Spades}{k-Clubs}{j-Spades}.
