Jianpeng Flushes Out Rockets

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

While it’s still too early to tell which of the 200 remaining players has the chip lead one of the early frontrunners is Zhao Jiangpeng, who has just sent an unfortunate opponent to the rail.

We arrived in time to see the dealer peeling off the river on a board reading {7-Spades}{k-Hearts}{8-Hearts} {6-Hearts} but both Jiangpeng and his opponent are already all-in, or at least Jianpeng’s opponent is all in as the Chinese player has him covered and has {7-Hearts}{9-Hearts} face up on the felt in front of him for the turned flush.

Jianpeng’s opponent still had not turned over his hand, but the dealer peeled off the {7-Clubs} river anyway to give Jianpeng an un-needed trip sevens. The all-in player disgustedly flipped over {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} and stalked off sulkily, and we can’t say we blame him, while Jianpeng climbed to 65,000.

Break Time

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

The field has grown to 220 and while the tournament clock says 200 of these are still in the running we are not 100% sure of the accuracy. Of course, with re-entry still open until the start of level nine the field can still get bigger but for now the remaining players are on their first 10-minute break of the day.

Liu Shoves on Suri

Qiang Liu
Qiang Liu

Once again our timing is a little off and we arrived in time to see the tail end of a big pot that had developed between High Roller Qiang Liu and India’s Bobbie Suri.

We picked up the action on the turn with the board reading {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}{q-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} and over 28,000 in blinds and antes in the pot just begging for a new owner. Liu was hoping that the pot had his name on it and had just shoved for 10,500 and the action was on Suri, who was in the tank.

Eventually he decided to let it go and Liu flashed him the {a-Spades}, telling Suri that he just had an ace. Liu was then kind enough to flash his other hole card, which was the {a-Diamonds}, so he actually held the pocket rockets so Suri dodged a couple of bullets there.

Jianpeng Wins From Lau

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

We are now up to 204 entries, 200 of whom are still in the running. Some of the more recent arrivals include High Roller champion Chung Yuan Yu, who had obviously been busy as he is sitting on a stack of 40,000, and Red Dragon Main Event champion and former Asia Player of the Year Alan Lau.

While we did not catch Yu in action in this particular hand it was at his table, with a player in the hi-jack making it 450 to go pre-flop. The cut off called, Yu folded the button and small blind Zhao Jianpeng and big blind Lau both came along for the ride to take the action four-way to a flop of {q-Spades}{3-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}, which is checked all round.

The {7-Clubs} landed on the turn and Jianpeng checked once more, with Lau deciding to take a stab for 1,000. While this was enough to fold out the original raiser and the player in the cutoff, Jianpeng did not appear to be going anywhere and he check-raised to 3,000.

Lau thought it over for a few seconds but decided to fold and Jianpeng wins a small pot without showdown.

Big Pot for Feng

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Day 1C of the Poker King Cup Macau is now up to 175 entries, 171 of whom remain though we have not seen any of the bust outs. Our timing appears to be a little off today and we are arriving midway through all the big hands we have seen so far, with this next one being no exception.

We caught the action on the river in a big hand between Hong Kong’s Edward Ho and China’s Houju Feng that looked like a battle of the blinds. With the board reading {7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {q-Hearts} and over 17,800 in the pot Ho had led out for 12,000 and Feng had a decision to make.

The Chinese player tanked long and hard, as with just 17,075 left behind, should he call and lose Feng would be down to just 5,000 in chips. However, the fact that there is re-entry means he can always fire a second bullet and he did choose to make the call.

Ho turned over {4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for bottom pair and a missed diamond draw and Feng had {a-Clubs}{k-Spades} for top pair, which was enough to win the hand.

Ho raised from the button the very next hand with small blind Feng and the big blind making the call to take the action three-way to a flop of {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{q-Spades}, which was checked by all three players.

Feng opened for 800 on the {4-Clubs} turn and that was enough to get the big blind and Ho to fold out and the Chinese player makes it two from two.

Queens for Luyckx, Lai Shoves on An

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Pmame An
Pmame An

We caught a couple of interesting hands early on in level two, one of which was a big shove, but more on that later. In the first hand, it was Belgium’s Bart Luyckx in action in a four-way hand with a player in middle position opening for 400 and picking up two callers.

Luyckx made the call from the small blind and the flop fell {8-Clubs}{10-Spades}{j-Spades}. Luyckx checked to the raiser who continuation bet around ½ the pot for 800 with Luyckx the only caller.

The {9-Clubs} landed on the turn and now Luyckx decided to lead and fired out for 1,500, which his opponent called and the river came down the {7-Hearts}. That killed the action with neither player keen to bet and Luyckx rolled over {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}, which was enough to take down the hand.

While this was going on a big pot was brewing between China’s Pmame An and Hong Kong’s Kwok Chun ‘Derx’ Lai and while we missed the early betting we arrived in time to see some fireworks on the turn.

There was already 4,000 in the pot with the board reading {j-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and An, sitting in middle position, had led out for over a pot-sized bet of 4,800 and had just been shoved on by Lai, who had moved all-in for 29,200.

That’s a big bet and An did not look particularly happy about it. Eventually, she declared the fold, opening {6-Spades}{4-Spades} for bottom two pair. Lai did not show and raked in the pot to climb to 39,000 while An finished with 26,200.

Tang Wins Early

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The majority of the players are easing into the action slowly and while we did see a sizable pot developing over on Nick Wong and Justin Chan's table it was all over by the time we got there with a player making a 15,000 re-raise to shut down the action.

Xhihong Huang tried to get something going with a 300 raise from under-the-gun only to see Australia’s David Tang come over the top from UTG+1 for 825. Action folded around to the small blind who looked sorely tempted, so tempted in fact that he made the call, as did Huang to take the action three-way to a flop of {3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}.

Anti-climatically this brought checks from all three players and the dealer burned and turned the {8-Hearts}. This brought a second check from Huang and a delayed continuation bet from Tang who fired for a pot-sized 2,600.

That was enough to deter any callers and both Tang’s opponent’s folded to award the Aussie the pot.
