Yanchao Busts Alvarado

Level 15 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
JC Alvarado
JC Alvarado

Big pocket pairs are not fairing so well for some of the players. This time the man on the chopping block was Mexico’s JC Alvarado and the man doing the chopping was Zhao Yanchao.

Alvarado was the initial aggressor, making it 55,000 to go from middle position and Zhao Yanchao went straight to all-out Global Thermonuclear War and ripped in his whole 900,000 stack. Alvarado thought it over for a good while but made the call for his tournament life with {q-}{q-} and Yanchao turned over {a-}{k-}.

Unfortunately for Alvarado this time the classic race went in the favor of the man holding ace-king and the flop came down king-high and we lose one more, while Yanchao stacked up to 1.9 million.

Pan Gets Chong

Level 15 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Aces could not get it done for Victor Chong
Aces could not get it done for Victor Chong

Malaysia’s Victor Chong thought it was his lucky day when he looked down to see {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} min-raised from under-the-gun and saw Yuefeng Pan re-raise to 115,000 in total from the blinds.

Chong chose to get sneaky and just flat with his aces and slid in the call and it was off to a flop of {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}, which Pan led for 100,000. Chong called once more and the {5-Spades} hit the turn and this is when all the chips went in with Pan pulling the trigger and Chong making the call for his tournament life.

While Chong’s aces were still in front he was the at-risk player and Pan was drawing extremely live with {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. Unfortunately for Chong, the {3-Diamonds} came in on the river and he’s now out while Pan has around 3 million in chips.

Andrew An is no longer in the running
Andrew An is no longer in the running

A dejected looking Andrew An has just wandered past the media desk on his way to the cage to collect his HK$58,100 for his 24th place finish. According to An he ran two pairs into the flopped set of Lee, who is on fire at the moment and is hitting everything. Lee now has just over 3 million in chips.

Lee Doubles Lo

Level 15 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Jeffrey Lo
Jeffrey Lo

We saw Je Ho Lee lose a rare pot, which was a good thing for Jeffery Lo as he was the all-in player. It was Lo who opened the action with a raise to 55,000 from under-the-gun plus one and Chung Guang Zhang flat called in middle position before Lee bumped it up to 165,000 from the cutoff.

Lo did not take long to get his 580,000 stack in, Zhang folded out and Lee made the call.

Jeffrey Lo: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Je Ho Lee: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

The way Lee has been running recently we half expected a nine to come straight off the top of the deck. However, the {2-Spades}{k-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{a-Spades}{3-Hearts} runout saw Lo’s hand hold and he climbed to 1.2 million while Lee took a hit and dropped down to 2 million.

Soyza Busts to Wei

Level 15 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Michael Soyza
Michael Soyza

Michael Soyza’s tournament is now over courtesy of fellow Malaysian Lim Chin Wei. Down to his last eight big blinds Soyza got it in with {6-}{6-} and found himself racing against {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs} of Wei.

The {9-}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop was not the one Soyza was looking for and it pretty much gave Wei everything, including all of Soyza’s remaining chips. Soyza headed to the cash desk to collect the HK$58,100 for his 25th place finish while Wei stacked up to 1.6 million.

Lee Busts Toeh to Burst Bubble

Level 14 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Paul Teoh became the unfortunate bubble boy
Paul Teoh became the unfortunate bubble boy

Je Ho Lee is playing tournament executioner at the moment and it seemed fitting that the man who brought the 36 remaining players up to the bubble was also the man to pop it.

While some of the more deep-stacked players might have wished for the bubble to go on forever, the field’s short stacks can now all breath a big sigh of relief.

It was Lee who was the instigator, making it 50,000 from early position and Malaysia’s Paul Toeh defended from the big blind to take pay heads-up to a flop of {9-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}.

Toeh checked the action over to Lee, who casually tossed out a bet of 55,000 and Teoh re-checked his cards before choosing to check-raise to 130,000 in total. Lee moved all-in as soon as Teoh’s raise was across the line and Toeh called immediately.

There was an excruciating five minute wait for Toeh to discover his fate while the hands played out on the other three tables before, finally it was showtime.

Paul Teoh: {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Je Ho Lee: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

Toeh was the at-risk player but had hit top pair so just needed to fade an ace, or so he thought. The turn was a very sweaty {q-Clubs} and you just knew what was going to happen next. The {2-Clubs} river completed the Korean’s backdoor flush and guarantee the 35 remaining players an HK$50,900 payday and Lee stacked up to 2.55 million while the unlucky Toeh headed for the rail empty-handed.

Lee Busts One to Bring Play to the Bubble

Level 14 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

We missed the bust out as were catching another hand and the unfortunate bustee left so fast we could not see who it was. However, we know that the buster was Korea’s Je Ho Lee.

The player in question moved all-in pre-flop for 1.5 big blinds with {k-Spades}{4-Spades} and was looked up by Lee, who had the chips to spare, with {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {k-}{j-}{5-}{q-}{10-} and the tournament clock has been paused as play is now hand-for-hand.
