Cheung Getting Short, Tsai Wins One

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Sparrow Cheung started reasonably well but is going through a bit of a slump over the course of the level. Down to 40,000 (10 big blinds), Cheung moved all-in from early position but found no customers to claim the blinds and antes.

While Yu You Ci Tsai was able to find himself a customer preflop after raising from mid-position and becoming embroiled in a raising war with a tablemate, the hand fizzled out after the flop. There was close to 100,000 in the pot with the flop reading {8-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{q-Spades} when the action was picked up, just as Tsai fired out a chunky 117,000 bet.

Tsai's opponent in the hand tanked long and hard, but being as the bet represented everything he had in front of him, the player in question elected to give it up, leaving Tsai free to rake in the pot.

Pan Outdraws Andrews

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Cheng-How Pan,
Cheng-How Pan,

The UK's Ben Andrews and Taiwan's Cheng-How Pan tangled in a pot that saw the latter take some chips from the former thanks to a bit of help from the board.

Action was picked up on a flop o f{6-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts} with close to 11,000 in the pot just as Pan led out for 7,000, only to see Andrew's come over the top from late position with a re-raise to 27,000 in total. While Pan did not look all that thrilled to get re-raised he made the call and the dealer burned and turned the {10-Clubs} turn.

With four to a straight out, that killed all the action and there was no more betting in the hand, with both players checking and then checking again on the {10-Diamonds} turn.

Andrews rolled over {8-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a flopped two pair, but Pan had {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and the pair up on the river saw him claim the pot and climb to 195,000, while Andrews dropped to 86,500.

Wee Spikes Set to Take Lead

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Lee Kuan Wee
Lee Kuan Wee

An absolutely huge hand has gone down between Jieming Xu, Chang Yu Chung and Lee Kuan Wee that saw the latter shoot straight to the top of the chip counts.

It was Chung who lit the fuse with an open to 7,000 from middle position, with a short-stacked Xu moving all-in for ~45,000 or so from the button. Sitting in the small blind, Wee announced raise and cut out a sizable stack of blue 5k chips for another 100,000 on top and action was back on Chung, who wasted little time in moving all-in for over 160,000. Wee tossed in the extras and the trio revealed their hands, with all of them holding premium pairs.

Jieming Xu: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
Lee Kuan Wee: {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}
Chang Yu Chung: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

While Xu looked to be in great shape for a triple up, the window card was the {j-Clubs}, which brought an anguished cry of "Oh my god!" from Xu.

The rest of the runout came down {6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} to give Wee a boat and the monster pot, while Xu and Chung took some pictures of the board to commemorate the occasion before heading for the rail, while Wee stacked up to 445,000, which is good for the chip lead presently.

Wong Falls to Wee

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Carson Wong's tournament has come to an end, with the Hong Kong player falling at the hands of Lee Kuan Wee. Wong was short-stacked, moving the last of his chips in preflop from mid-position with Wee looking him up from the blinds.

Carson Wong: {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Lee Kuan Wee: {a-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

Both players missed the {4-Spades}{j-Hearts}{8-Hearts} flop, with Wong improving to second pair on the {10-Spades} turn, before disaster struck on the {9-Diamonds} river, with Lee making a straight to send Wong to the rail and stack Wee up to 240,000.

Gruendemann Doubles Through Shin

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 2,400 ante

For a while there, it looked as though Mark Gruendemann was on the ropes, dropping down to 45,000 from the 86,000 he began the day with. However, Mr. Gruendemann's luck has done a sharp U-turn and he has doubled up through South Korea's Jae Wook Shin.

It was Justin Chu who was the initial aggressor, making it 5,200 from middle position, with Gruendemann moving all in for the last of his chips. Jae Wook Shin made the call from the blinds, and Chu took the hint and bowed out.

Jae Wook Shin: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Mark Gruendemann: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}

It was left to a good old fashioned race to decide Gruendemann's fate, and the poker gods were in a magnanimous mood with the {k-Spades}{j-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Spades}{x-} runout giving the Irishman a flush and a double to 113,000, while Shin dropped down to 145,000.
