Ulrich Pauls Takes the Chip Lead Into the Final Day of the PokerStars Festival Hamburg Main Event

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Ulrich Pauls
Ulrich Pauls

At 1 p.m local time the 213 players that survived the four starting days came together with a goal of reaching the final day. After 10 levels of 60 minutes each, 15 have done just that. They will all return tomorrow for a bigger share of the €549,990 prize pool.

Ulrich Pauls is on top of the chip counts with 2,653,000 chips after having won several incredible hands. He eliminated Raffael Targowski and Dustin Mangold in one hand where he had jack-ten and was up against the pocket fours of Targowski and the ace-king of Mangold. He hit a jack on the turn to win the hand. Just a bit earlier he also eliminated both Christoph Wagener and Erik Scheidt in two separate hands where he held pocket fives and they had ace-king and got no help from the board.

Second in the chip counts is Karolis Domarkas with 2,234,000 chips. A chunk of those chips were collected when he won a flip against Maximilian Silz with ace-king against jacks and he hit a king on the turn. And third on the overnight podium is PokerStars Team Pro Marcin Horecki who started the day with only 26,000 and finished with much multiplied amount of that: 1,825,000 chips. He collected some of those chips by eliminating Johannes Wassmuth when he hit a straight with his queen-ten against the ace-nine of his opponent.

Other players that will return tomorrow with an above average stack are [Removed:431] (1,620,000), Alaettin Keles (1,463,000), and Behzad Zarnegar (1,425,000). Further players to keep an eye on are Michal Lubas (635,000), who finished second in the 2017 PokerStars Festival Rozvadov Main Event for €91,000, and €2,200 High Roller Runner Up De Han Kim (284,000). They will both be looking to win the tournament so they can add that to their palmares.

Raffael Targowski Eliminated in 17th Place (€5,000); Dustin Mangold Eliminated in 16th Place (€5,000)

Raffael Targowski
Raffael Targowski

On the tail end of a big pot between Alaettin Keles and Ulrich Pauls, the former checked the {Q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} river and Keles bet 275,000. Pauls was not happy at all about the run out but eventually called. Keles showed {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for the nut flush and Pauls mucked the {2-Hearts}.

Right after, Pauls limped in from the hijack and Raffael Targowski moved all in for 253,000 from the cutoff. Dustin Mangold moved all in over the top for 371,000 in the small blind and Pauls gave it some thought, said "okay, good luck guys," and tossed in a chip for the call.

Raffael Targowski: {4-Spades}{4-Hearts}
Dustin Mangold: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Ulrich Pauls: {J-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

The {Q-Spades}{9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop was a massive sweat for Pauls with the open-ended straight draw, and he improved to a pair with the {J-Hearts} turn. The {9-Spades} fell on the river and that sent Targowski to the rail in 17th place for €5,000, while Mangold takes home the same amount for his 16th place finish.

Daniel Stacey raised to 50,00 from the cutoff and was called by [Removed:431], in the small blind. Bezad Zarnegar raised to 150 from the big blind. Stacey folded and Steinfeuer called.

The flop came {8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{J-Spades}, Steinfeuer shoved for 630,000 and Zarnegar snap-called. Steinfeuer showed {k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Zarnegar had {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}.

The rest of the board ran out {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs} to give Steinfeuer a pair of kings and the double up.

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

The board read {K-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{A-Spades}{8-Spades} and the pot already contained about 500,000 in it. [Removed:431] bet 200,000 from the cutoff. Behzad Zarnegar raised to 500,000 and Steinfeuer called.

The {8-Hearts} on the river completed the board, Steinfeuer check-folded to the 500,000 bet of Zarnegar.

Philipp Lütkemeier
Philipp Lütkemeier

In the cutoff, De Han Kim raised and left only 3,000 chips behind. Philipp Lutkemeier moved all in from the button and Kim took a sip of his drink before calling it off for 138,000 in total.

De Han Kim: {K-Spades}{8-Clubs}
Philipp Lutkemeier: {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}

The board came {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} and Lutkemeier was left with fewer than two big blinds. A few hands later he moved all in for 22,000 from under the gun and Marcin Horecki raised to 60,000 in the cutoff, forcing out everyone else.

Philipp Lutkemeier: {4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Marcin Horecki: {A-Hearts}{8-Clubs}

The board ran out {Q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{8-Spades} and Lutkemeier was eliminated in 18th place for €4,450.

Pauls Shows a Big Bluff

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Karolis Domarkas raised to 44,000 and Michal Lubas called in the small blind. Ulrich Pauls three-bet to 160,000 from the big blind and Domarkas called, Lubas folded. On the {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades} flop, Pauls continued for 130,000 and the Lithuanian called.

Both checked the {6-Diamonds} on the turn and the {3-Clubs} river saw Pauls lean back in his seat before betting 400,000 after careful consideration. Domarkas folded and Pauls triumphantly turned over the {10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} for a successful bluff.

Horecki on the Rise

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Marcin Horecki
Marcin Horecki

The board read {8-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and there was around 150,000 in the pot already. Marcin Horecki checked from the small blind and Peter Jaksland bet 85,000 from the big blind. Horecki raised to 240,000 and after a while Jaksland called.

The {5-Diamonds} on the river completed the board on which they both checked. Horecki tabled {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} which was apparently good enough as Jaksland mucked his cards.
