Rhee Folds Out Burns and Asmolov

Level 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Yo Seb Rhee is flexing his big stack and has just won a sizable pot without a showdown. Rhee was the pre-flop aggressor from under-the-gun and while we missed his initial bet size it appeared that a raising war had developed as both Timofey Asmolov (small blind) and Simon Burns (big blind) had 7,200 in chips out on the felt in front of them.

Rhee raised again and bet big, making it 81,300 to go and Asmolov quickly folded. Burns looked sorely tempted but eventually gave it up, flashing pocket queens to the table before folding. Rhee did not show and raked in close to 15,000 all without a flop being dealt.

Halme Takes from Okada

Level 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

From under the gun, Antti Halme raised to 1,200 and picked up two callers including Ken Okada and Hoang Long Do in the small blind. The flop fell {10-Spades}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Do checked, while Halme's continuation bet of 2,325 picked up a call by Okada and a fold by Do.

On the {4-Spades} turn, the action went check, check, and Halme bet the {A-Clubs} river for 6,500. Okada called and briefly showed his cards before sending them into the muck as soon as Halme had turned over {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} for a pair of aces.

Rhee Gives Muthu Warm Welcome

Level 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Sathesh Muthu’s tournament has not started the way the Singaporean player would have wanted, with Yo Seb Rhee taking a big bite out of his stack not long after Muthu had taken his seat.

We missed the pre-flop action but caught the betting on the turn on a board reading {a-Spades}{4-Spades}{9-Spades}{j-Diamonds} with over 14,000 in the pot already, just as Muthu fired out a bet of 11,000 from the small blind.

Rhee (button) quickly re-raised, making it 31,000 to go and Muthu hit the think tank. There were just 5 seconds left on the clock before Muthu decided to go for it and moved all-in and was quickly called.

Satesh Muthu: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Yo Seb Rhee: {2-Spades}{3-Spades}

Unfortunately, Muthu found himself drawing dead to Rhee’s flopped flush and the {j-Spades} river completed the hand. Muthu took a big hit and dropped to 3,000 while Rhee climbed into the chip lead with a stack of 89,500.

No Showdown In Sight

Level 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

On the three-way turn of {10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}, Antii Halme and Ken Okada checked over to initial raiser Mansour Matloubi from under the gun. Matloubi made it 3,500 to go and that proved to be too much for both opponents.

Over on table two, Bach Hoang Nguyen bet the {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} turn for 1,500 and his sole opponent Junzhong Loo check-raised to 5,000 out of the blinds. Nguyen stared at the board without showing any emotion and sent his cards into the muck when the clock had run down to just a few seconds.

Nguyen and Do Chop

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

A decent sized pot played out between Van Sang Nguyen, Hoang Long Do and Antii Halme and while the result was a rather anti-climatic chop the hand was an interesting one.

We picked up the action on a {4-Spades}{a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{k-Hearts} board with over 3,400 in blinds and antes in the pot just as Nguyen (big blind) checked the action over to Do, who led for 1,500.

Antii Halme (middle position) made the call before Nguyen check-raised to 4,500. Do thought for nearly the full 30-seconds before making the call and Halme folded to take the action heads-up to the {q-Spades} river.

With four to a straight out there Nguyen now checked and Do quickly bet 15,000. Nguyen then check raised again, quickly moving all-in and was called instantly.

Nguyen turned over {q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} for the turned Broadway straight and seemed disgruntled to find that Do had dodged a bullet after he turned over {a-Spades}{10-Clubs} for the rivered straight and the pot was divved up.

Singapore’s Sathesh Kumar Muthu and Russia's Konstantin Pogodin joined the tournament shortly afterward to grow the field to 24 though only 22 of these remain in the running.

Miyakita's Kings Cracked

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Kota Miyakita
Kota Miyakita

A raise by Kota Miyakita in early position was followed by a three-bet from Simon Hermann and Miyakita then four-bet all in for what appeared to be 29,800 from under the gun. Hermann called and found himself with just over card before the following showdown:

Kota Miyakita: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}
Simon Hermann: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{8-Hearts} flop gave Hermann the better hand, but Miyakita pointed out "I have a draw." Neither the case king or any heart made an appeared however, as the {J-Clubs} turn and {7-Clubs} river were both blanks. On his way out, Miyakita was pondering about the re-entry option and may or may not be back in action soon.

Asmolov Pays Off Plater

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

On a multi-way flop of {9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, Peter Plater was the only player to call a bet of 3,200 by Timofey Almosov and the {K-Hearts} appeared on the turn. Almosov continued for 2,500 from under the gun and Plater announced a raise on the button, making it 6,000 to go. Almosov quickly called and the {K-Diamonds} river completed the board.

Almosov checked and Plater bet 8,500, which the Russian called after brief consideration. "Kings full," Plater announced and rolled over his {K-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for kings over nines. Almosov mucked {J-Spades}{J-Hearts} face up and dropped back to just over the starting stack.

Obara Back to Even

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Jun Obara has been a busy bunny and has made a sterling recovery from his earlier misfortunes and has run his 10,000 stack back up to the 50,000 starting stack.

Some of those chips have come from Xiaoling Li, whom we caught in action against Obara in the following hand.

Li had a single blue 1k chip out on the felt in front of here in middle position when we arrived, though we are unsure if this represented a limp or a raise. However, we do know that Obara, sitting in the next seat, had raised to 1,500.

Action folded back around Li who mulled over her options and elected to call to take play heads-up to the {4-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop.

Li checked, Obara continuation bet 1,500 and Li made the call to bring in the {2-Hearts} turn. This saw both player check and the {5-Diamonds} river completed a possible flush and saw Li lead out for 2,500.

Obara now raised, quickly tossing out a bet of 8,500 to send Li into the think tank where she remained for the full 30-seconds of time before making the fold and leaving Obara to rake in a decent sized pot.
