Kniska Coolers Reis

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Action was three ways to a flop. Rafael Reis was in early position against Lucas Rocha in the cutoff and John Kniska in the big blind.

There was around 9,000 in the pot and the flop came {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. Action checked to Reis who bet 2,800. Rocha called before Kniska put in the check-raise to 12,000. Only Reis called.

The turn came the {a-Clubs} and Kniska bet 17,000. Reis moved all in for 50,000 and Kniska thought for a little while before calling.

John Kniska: {4-Clubs}{4-Spades}
Rafael Reis: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

It was a cooler in Kniska's favour as he had flopped a full house while Reis had flopped trips. The river came the {3-Spades} which gave Kniska a double and left Reis with fumes.

Last Five Hands

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

The tournament clock has paused and the tournament director has said that Day 1 will end upon the completion of five more hands.

Day 2 play will resume at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31.

Buican Jams on Vang

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Kou Vang opened to 2,500 from under the gun. Radu Buican called on his direct left and Christoph Vogelsang defended from the big blind.

Vang continued for 3,000 on the {j-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop and only Vang called. Vang then called a bet of 9,000 on the {a-Diamonds} turn.

The {10-Hearts} completed the board and Vang fired a third barrel of 12,000. Platinum Pass winner Buican wasted little time putting in his 27,000 stack and after around two minutes of thinking time, Vang folded.

Saout Sends Constabile Packing

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Antoine Saout
Antoine Saout

Platinum Pass winner and Actor David Constabile (well known for his roles on Breaking Bad and more recently as the character "Wags" on Billions) has been running bad on the Feature Table.

He got his last 8,200 in holding {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} in the small blind on the last level of the day and was up against Antoine Saout's {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} in early position and Daniel Neilson in the hijack, holding {k-Spades}{9-Spades}.

They checked down the board of {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and Saout made a club flush to scoop. Constabile said farewell to his table-mates before exiting the stage.

Veldhuis Gone as Shaban Scores Double Knockout

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Lex Veldhuis
Lex Veldhuis

Lex Veldhuis three-bet jammed and Lauro Cesar Artmann re-shoved behind him with a slightly smaller stack.

Lauro Artmann: {a-}{k-}
Lex Veldhuis: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}

Despite being dominated, Veldhuis flopped the world as it landed {q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Spades} to give him a flush draw and gutshot. But sadly for the PokerStars Ambassador, the board proceeded to brick out {4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}.

The next hand, an early position player opened to 2,600 and Veldhuis moved all in with less from the cutoff. Fellow PokerStars Pro Arlie Shaban then three-bet to 8,000 on the button and Ante Jukic four-bet jammed a stack of 49,600 from the big blind. The initial raiser folded and Shaban called.

Lex Veldhuis: {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Ante Jukic: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Arlie Shaban: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs}{q-Spades} to improve Shaban to a set for a double knockout as Jukic and Veldhuis hit the rail.

Sanchez Fires Three Streets

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Ramon Lampert opened to 2,500 from under the gun and Mauricio Sanchez three-bet to 7,100 in the hijack. The action folded back to Lampert who called to see a flop of {8-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Hearts}.

Lampert check-called a bet of 5,800 from Sanchez on the flop and then another 9,100 on the {4-Spades} turn. The {j-Hearts} completed the board and Lampert checked for the third time. Sanchez reached back for a bet of 31,000 and Lampert finally dumped his cards to the muck.

Konnikova Eliminates Ionescu With Kings

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Maria Konnikova
Maria Konnikova

There was 18,000 in the pot. Alexandru Ionescu was in early position against Maria Konnikova in the cutoff.

The flop came {j-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and Ionescu checked. Konnikova bet 10,000 before Ionescu moved all in for 45,800. Konnikova took a bit of time to think before calling.

Alexandru Ionescu: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Maria Konnikova: {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

Ionescu had top pair, top kicker, but needed help as Konnikova had pocket kings for the overpair. No help came, however, as the turn brought the {5-Clubs} and the river the {4-Spades} to eliminate Ionescu from the tournament.

Kanit Calls Down Rebei

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Karim Rebei and Mustapha Kanit were heads up to the river on a board showing {10-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. Kanit was facing a raise from Rebei to 53,000 and took some time before coming to a decision.

Kanit tossed in the call and Rebei responded by flipping over {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for a missed flush draw. Kanit showed {7-Diamonds}{4-Spades} to take down the pot.

"I had to show you I could bluff" said Rebei, as Kanit smiled while stacking his chips.
