Blumenfeld Finds Some Heat

Level 11 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

A player opened to 5,000 from under the gun and was called by a player in middle position. Action then folded around to Scott Blumenfeld in the small blind, who moved all in. The initial raiser folded while the middle position player called with the covering stack to put Blumenfeld at risk.

Scott Blumenfeld: {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}
Middle Position Player: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Blumenfeld was locked in a race, one that he would need to win in order to survive. The {3-Spades}{10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} flop kept him ahead, with the {2-Diamonds} turn changing nothing. The river bricked out {8-Clubs} to secure the double for Blumenfeld.

The very next hand saw Blumenfeld open to 7,000 on the button. The big blind defended to send the two players to the flop.

Action checked through the {2-Spades}{3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop to the {q-Clubs} turn where the big blind checked once more. Blumenfeld fired off a delayed continuation of 8,000 which was called by his opponent.

The {j-Spades} river saw both players check with Blumenfeld showing down {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}, good enough to take down the pot.

Dickstein Gets One Through

Level 11 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Mark Dickstein
Mark Dickstein

Mark Dickstein limped from early position before a player in middle position raised to 5,500. The cutoff called as did Dickstein to send action three-way to the flop.

Both Dickstein and the middle position player checked after the {7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop with the cutoff deciding to fire off 6,500. Dickstein promptly moved all in with the middle position folding just as quickly to send the action back to the cutoff. It did not take long for them to muck, giving a healthy boost to Dickstein's stack.

Perez Chips Up

Level 10 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

A player opened to 4,000 from early position and received a single caller in the form of Alex Perez out of the small blind.

Perez checked in the dark prior to the {9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{j-Hearts} flop with his opponent following suit to send the action to the turn.

On the {6-Hearts} turn Perez decided to seize the betting lead, pushing 7,500 into the middle. That bet alone was enough to convince his opponent to fold, sending a small pot towards Perez.

Nguyen Survives

Picking up the action on a flop of {q-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{a-Clubs}, Phong Vip Nguyen in the big blind was involved in a pot with a player on the button. Nguyen checked and his opponent led out for 4,000. Nguyen gave his decision some thought before opting to push his remaining 10,600 into the middle. The button player called with the larger stack to put Nguyen at risk.

Phong Vip Nguyen: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Button Player: {q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

Nguyen was ahead with his cowboys, remarking that he had 'gone with my read' when deciding to risk it all despite the overcard on the flop. Still, he was not out of the woods yet, having to fade clubs, queens and eights with two cards to come. The {a-Spades} turn did remove some of his opponent's outs with the {6-Spades} river failing to change anything, thereby handing Nguyen a crucial double.
