Meyer Hits Six Figures

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Three players put in about 6,500 preflop to see a {5-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{5-Spades} flop at Table 33. Everyone checked, and Shawn Meyer bet 6,500 from the bit blind on the {4-Diamonds} turn. Only Brandon Fish, who flatted preflop from the cutoff, decided to see the {10-Spades} river. Fish thought awhile before calling another 8,500, but he couldn't beat {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}.

Schrier Busts Attebery

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Darren Attebery bet 14,000 on an {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{j-Hearts} flop against three players, and Stan Schrier called from the button. On the {2-Spades} turn, Attebery jammed for about 30,000 and Schrier snap-called.

Attebery: {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Schrier: {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}

Schrier was ahead for the moment, but Attebery had quite a few outs. Both players improved on the {a-Spades} river but Schrier took it with a boat.

Schrier notably made the Main Event final table in 2001. That year it was won by Carlos Mortensen, but Schrier's third-place finish meant he outlasted Phil Gordon, Phil Hellmuth, and Mike Matusow at arguably the most stacked final table in Main Event history.

Flips Go to Perry, Fish

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Colin Perry pushed from late position with about 20,000 and the big blind called off with {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. Perry's {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} held up as the board ran out dead.

At the neighboring table, Brandon Fish had his {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} hold against {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} when he shipped over a late-position open and a button call.

Phan Eliminated

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Ryan Phan
Ryan Phan

Ryan Phan is going to have to get through Day 1c if he wants to repeat his RunGood final table performance from this spring. As Duster Ellis told it, he opened with {a-}{a-} and got action from Phan, who shoved over his continuation-bet on a king-high flop with {k-}{j-}. Phan found no improvement on the last two streets and Ellis collected his stack.

Fink Takes Nasty Beat

Level 10 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

A player was all in preflop for 4,600 and called in two spots when {j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flopped. One of the active players shipped and Mark Fink called immediately with {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}. The preflop all-in player had {q-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and the postflop shipper had {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. The {k-Clubs} turn and {9-Diamonds} river meant both of Fink's opponents made straights.

Sztamburski's Mistakes Ends Up Paying Off

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

A player was all in for 3,600 at Table 29 when we arrived, and Matt Sztamburski had already called. David Rockvam shoved from the big blind, and Sztamburski asked for a count. It was 10,400 total.

"I did this to myself," he said with a sigh as he flicked in a call.

Sztamburski: {j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}
Rockvam: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Third player: {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}

Sztamburski had live cards and took the lead as {j-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flopped. His jacks held on the {5-Clubs} turn and {2-Hearts} river, eliminating both opponents.

"I didn't see him go all in," Sztamburski confessed with a grin.
