Ochoa Gets There To Double

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Action folded to the player on the button, who opened to 4,100 and received a call from the small blind. Esteban Ochoa was in the big blind and squeezed, three-betting all in for 28,500. The player on the button folded and the small blind quickly called.

Esteban Ochoa: {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Small Blind: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

The player on the button exclaimed that he had folded ace-ten offsuit as well, though it did not matter as the board an out {4-Spades}{9-Clubs}{a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} bringing two more aces on board to leave Ochoa with trips when all was said and done, good enough for a double along the way.

McEwen Wins Multiway Pot Without Showdown

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Preston McEwen
Preston McEwen

Preston McEwen opened the action with a raise to 2,700 from early position and was called by Suzan Samuels, who was on his direct left. Action folded around to the cutoff, who also called, as did both the players on the button and in the big blind.

With five players in the hand, the flop came {4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. All five players checked to bring the turn {5-Spades}. The big blind checked to McEwen, and he put out a bet of 8,500. Action quickly folded back to the big blind, who gave his best Hollywood for about 15 seconds before cracking a smile as he sent his cards to the muck.

The pot scored McEwen a significant increase to his stack without needing to see a showdown, bringing the RunGood Ambassador's stack above 50 big blinds-worth of chips.

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Bill Sadka
Bill Sadka

There was around 15,000 in the middle with three-way action on a flop of {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} as players in middle position and the cutoff both checked to Bill Sadka, who was on the button and bet 6,000. The middle-position player folded and the cutoff called, taking action heads up to the turn {j-Hearts}.

Sadka saw the cutoff check to him once again, who continued firing with a bet of 10,000. The cutoff folded and Sadka took down the pot.

Second and Final Break of the Night

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

The remaining 54 players are on their final 15-minute break of the night. Registration will close at the completion of the break, at which point the field will play another four 30-minute levels before play concludes and chips are bagged and tagged for the night.

Misenhimer Doubles Through Gauthier

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

A player raised to 2,000 from under the gun and saw the player on his direct left three-bet to 5,000. Action folded around to Wes Gauthier, who cold four-bet to 17,000 from the small blind. Action was then on Alan Misenheimer, who was in the big blind and went deep into the tank.

Two minutes later, he asked the dealer a question that sounded like he was curious how many levels were played in the day. The dealer responded by telling him 12, and he thought for another 20 seconds or so before announcing that he was all in for a bit over 30,000. The two early-position players folded and Gauthier called off the rest.

Alan Misenheimer: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Wes Gauthier: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}

Misenheimer was out in front as the flop came {6-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{j-Spades}, sending him even further ahead with a flopped set of tens. Gauthier then was in need of running cards, and the turn {7-Spades} gave him one part of that. Even still, he was down to four outs and in need of hitting an eight to score the knockout. He did not do so as the river fell {3-Hearts} to score the double for Misenheimer just moments before the second break of the evening.

Gilliam Finds a Lucky Triple

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Tim Gilliam pictured at another event
Tim Gilliam pictured at another event

Tim Gilliam was all in for his last 14,200 from middle position and had been called by the small blind before the big blind went all in over the top for another 50,000-plus. Action was back on the small blind, who thought for about 35 seconds before folding. The dealer then asked for Gilliam and the big blind to turn up their hands.

Tim Gilliam: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Big Blind: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Gilliam's nines were well behind his opponent's queens, putting him at risk of taking his pick between hitting the rail or revisiting the registration desk. The flop {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{10-Spades} brought him that much closer to that becoming a reality. The turn then came {10-Hearts}, giving him eight outs to a flush in addition to the two nines in the deck that would complete a full house. The river fell {2-Hearts} to give him the backdoored four-flush, scoring the triple along with it to find new life shortly before the second break of the evening and the subsequent closing of the registration period.

Stroud Having Fun Going Over 100,000

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Matt Stroud
Matt Stroud

Matt Stroud was just seen with a pile of chips in front of him that appeared to be over six figures in total. He was kind enough to share his journey so far, stating that he had a few crazy hands to recount. He began to laugh as he said it, igniting even more laughter from tablemate Tim Gilliam, who was on Stroud's direct right.

Hand #1:

According to Stroud, he had called a raise with {j-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and went multiway (at least four ways) to a flop of {k-}{4-}{3-}. Action checked to Stroud and he bet 3,000. He received one caller before the turn came {6-}, giving him an open-ended straight draw. He bet another 6,000 and was called. The river fell {2-} to give him a straight and he went all in. His opponent called and sent his cards to the muck when Stroud tabled the backdoor straight.

Hand #2:

Moments later, Stroud opened again and received a call from the big blind. Stacks ended up getting in on a flop of {a-}{j-}{x-}.

Matt Stroud: {a-}{5-}-offsuit
Big Blind: {a-}{k-}

Despite flopping top pair, Stroud was way behind his opponent's top kicker to go along with it. The turn {4-} was of no help but the river fell {5-} to improve Stroud to aces up and send another player to the rail.

Hand #3:

Stroud raised preflop and found three callers to bring a flop of {x-Diamonds}{x-Diamonds}{x-Diamonds}. He made a continuation-bet of 4,000 and was raised all in by another player in the hand. He made the call.

Matt Stroud: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
All-In Player: {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

Stroud's overpair of kings with the second-nut-flush draw was in need of improvement to his opponent's flopped flush. The turn came {6-Spades} and he was down to one card in order to improve to score a third knockout in short span. The river {6-Diamonds} fell in his favor to do just that, earning him a third knockout in a short timeframe and bringing him to around 110,000 in chips along the way.
