Padula Doubles Off Caruso, Corpening Still Cruising

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante

Kash Corpening three-bet to 3,000 on the button and Christopher Caruso called in the big blind. Brandon Padula then moved all in for 22,000 in the hijack and Corpening folded, while Caruso called to put Padula at risk.

Christopher Caruso: K9

Padula had Caruso dominated and was a big favorite to double up. The 7J277 board kept his ace-kicker in the lead, and Caruso handed over the pot.

Corpening, meanwhile, has continued his ascent so far on Day 1a and has eclipsed the 200,000-chip milestone.

Arnwine Smacks the River to Stun an Opponent

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante

Justin Arnwine had a raise of 5,000 in front of him from the cutoff before an opponent in middle position reraised to 13,000. Arnwine then moved all in, and his opponent snap-called for 53,000.

All-in player: AA All in
Justin Arnwine: QQ

Arnwine had run his queens into aces and was at risk of handing over the big pot as the flop came 2J9. The 10 turn gave him some hope with a straight draw, and Arnwine spiked the K on the river to make his straight and send his opponent to the rail.

Petro's Kings Hold For a Double

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante

A player under the gun raised to 1,500 and was called by another player in early position. Morgan Petro then three-bet to 6,700 in the small blind, and both opponents called.

The flop came 1069 and Petro checked over to the under-the-gun player, who bet 8,500. Action folded back to Petro who called to see the J turn.

His opponent then bet another 12,000, but this time Petro moved all in for 23,200. His opponent took about 30 seconds before calling.

"I don't beat much," Petro said, turning over KK.

"I have a straight draw," his opponent added as he showed AQ, but the 2 river was no help and Petro doubled up.

David Zielinski was recently eliminated at this table, while Justin Arnwine has built his stack up to around 90,000.

Caitlin Comeskey recently joined the field.

Bomey Snaps Off an Opponent

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante

A player in early position raised to 1,200, Nathan Bomey three-bet to 3,700 in the hijack, and his opponent called.

The flop came J75 and Bomey bet 2,000. His opponent called to see the K turn, where Bomey continued for 3,300. The early-position player then moved all in for 10,000, and Bomey snap-called.

The at-risk player turned over K10, but he was already drawing dead against Bomey's JJ for top set. "Don't even need the last card," he said as the Q river sealed his elimination, while Bomey raked in the pot.

Fan Flops the Joint For a Knockout

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante

Changfeng Fan raised to 1,000 under the gun and was called by an opponent in early position. Jeffrey Chang then three-bet to 4,500 in middle position and was called by the cutoff, as well as Fan and the early-position player.

The AK4 flop was checked through, and Fan bet 7,000 on the Q turn. The early-position player then moved all in for 30,000, and the table folded back around to Fan who quickly called.

The at-risk player showed KQ for two pair, but Fan had flopped a flush with 96. The river was the 6 and Fan scored the knockout.

MGM National Harbor Regular Takes Down a "Crazy" Hand Early on Day 1a

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Kash Corpening
Kash Corpening

For the past few years, Kash Corpening could usually be found here inside the poker room at MGM National Harbor, but even with all that experience, he’s never had a hand like the one he took down early on Day 1a

Corpening was all in for 49,000 and up against two opponents. He showed down two aces, while both his opponents had two kings. The board was safe for Corpening, and he rocketed to a massive chip lead.

“That was freaking crazy. It could not have gone more perfect,” he said. “However, I did not expect both players to have the same hand. Once I saw they had the same hand, I knew I was good. Perfect situation. About time I get a great set up like that.”

Corpening is a regular at this casino and has compiled career earnings of about $190,000, according to The Hendon Mob. His two biggest scores were both for around $10,000, and he’s made an effort in the past few years to play for bigger stakes.

“I started here. I call this my home casino. I love it here,” he said. “I’ve been playing here for about seven years. Within the past two or three years started to up the ante with the buy-ins and everything, and I’m really looking to make this one work.

As for his big chip lead, Corpening has one plan for the rest of the day. “I’m hoping to keep it,” he said with a laugh.
