Day 1ab Completed
Day 1b concluded the first day of play in the RunGood Poker Series Grand Prix Reno $800 Main Event. The second flight of the tournament attracted a total of 44 players, which permitted five players to advance to Day 2 on Sunday.
Robert Hancock finished as the chip leader of Day 1b (579,000). Victor Paredes (352,00) followed second in chips, and Eugene Chun (233,000) bagged the third most of any player during the flight.
Hancock shared that he rarely plays No-Limit Hold’em tournaments and often plays PLO 8 cash games as his preferred format. When he does play tournaments, No-Limit Hold’em is the variant he enjoys most.
When asked about how it felt to finish Day 1b as he chip leader, Hancock brushed it off and revealed his mindset is already focused on Day 2.
Hancock stated, “It’s fine, but it doesn’t mean anything until Sunday.”
Hancock was active throughout Day 1b, scoring eliminations down the stretch. Most notably, Hancock secured a knockout of Rudy Wusstig that saw him soar to the quarter-million chip mark. His work was not done as he would go on to double that before the end of the flight, which culminated with a knockout to burst the bubble against Tibor Horvath to end the night.
Hancock and the other four players who bagged on Day 1b will return to play on Day 2 on Sunday, August 31, at 12 p.m.

Tibor Horvath limped from the small blind, and Robert Hancock responded with a raise to 28,000 total. Horvath quickly called and sent them to a flop.

Robert Hancock: 10♥7♠
Hancock had Horvath in a bad spot as they went into the final two streets.

Eugene Chun: K♣Q♦
Horvath and Chun out-kicked, and the turn and river did not alter that as Horvath secured the double.

Winston Chun opened with a raise from under the gun and garnered a call from middle position. Victor Paredes responded with a jam from the big blind. Chun snap called, and the other player bowed out to create a showdown between Chun and Paredes with Chun at risk.
Winston Chun: A♥A♠
Victor Paredes: A♦K♥
Chun had Paredes crushed. The 7♥Q♥3♠ flop did not give Paredes much to work with, but the K♦ turn did give Paredes a sliver of hope.
The J♥ river secured the double for Chun as his pocket aces held.

Victor Paredes raised to 10,000 from the hijack, which led to calls from Anthony Calderon on the button and Robert Hancock in the big blind.
The flop fanned out Q♦5♥2♠, which led to a check from Hancock. Paredes chose to continue for 20,000 and was called by Calderon. Hancock got out of the hand with a fold.
The 3♦ turn led to a check from Paredes before Calderon shoved for 99,000. Paredes called for 83,000 to be at risk.
Victor Paredes: K♦Q♠
Anthony Calderon: 7♠5♠
Paredes was well ahead with his top pair, and the river did not alter that as it came the 6♣ to award Paredes a double up and leave Calderon with a short stack. Calderon was seen shortly after leaving the table as he busted from Day 1b.

The nine remaining players in Day 1b are now on a 15-minute break. Play will resume at the 3,000/5,000 level. A total of five players are scheduled to advance to Day 2.
A raise from the button began the action before Winston Chun chose to go all-in from the small blind for 68,000. Daniel Landro opted to call for less from the big blind before the original raiser folded to create a showdown between Chun and Landro.
Daniel Landro: A♠5♠
Winston Chun: A♥K♥
Landro did not find any help on the 7♥J♦10♠ flop, but the 2♠ turn brought some intrigue as it gave Landro a flush draw.
The 2♥ was a brick as Chun scooped the pot.
