Tradition and Glory

Level 12 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Poker is a family tradition for Karl Hedberg and his family. Hedberg shared that his grandfather was a card player, and now Hedberg finds himself following the family lineage as he embarks on his journey to pursue poker glory.

“Poker is calming for me. It puts me in high-stress situations, and I approach it to the best of my ability,” Hedberg said.

Hedberg began playing when he was 16 years old, but he began playing in earnest when he was 19 as a sophomore in university.

“I used to grind cash to get through college,” Hedberg said. “Now that I have a full-time job, I’m mainly playing tournament poker.”

Hedberg stated that he enjoys the competitive aspect of tournament poker and joked that the chance to win some hardware is motivation enough.

Hedberg added some hardware to his trophy case earlier in the RunGood Poker Series Grand Prix San Diego when he took down the $200 Series Opener Ring Event for $2,592. Hedberg is now aiming to add more to his resume as he is still alive in flight on Day 1a of the main event.

Hedberg has thus far managed the high stress of competing in the main event. Hedberg just secured a double to vault to 146,000 in chips to keep his hopes alive of a main event ring in the closing chapter of Day 1a.

The hand began when the early position player raised to 4,000 and was called by Bradley Miller on the button and the big blind.

The flop fanned out J72 before both players checked to Miller on the button. Miller opted to bet 5,000, which garnered a fold from the big blind but a call from the original raiser.

Miller did not slow down on the A turn. He bet another 5,000 once it was checked to him. This time, his opponent yielded with a fold to award the pot to Miller.
